Quote24FPS I don't know what's so hard to believe about this. It may not all be recollected with the passage of time, but I can believe them trying to get rid of Bill. They never understood or appreciated his contribution, and I'm not sure they do to this day. That's why I think it shocked the band when he left them, instead of the reverse. Well, they got their black bass play

Quotemuenke QuoteTate Regarding the "too much noodling" vs "really like his melodic playing.." debate, I have to say agree with both. It really is over-noodling on MT's part, but that said, I like it in this version. I like the over-noodling! And I am not a fan of endless Grateful Dead/ Phish noodlefests... I just love the sound of MT's guitar, and I love how diff

Quotetatters Here's the George Clinton quote. Found it on Susan Whitall's Facebook page "We loved the feel of rock and roll, the style. Creem magazine accepted us as one of their own: at one point, they wrote an article about how Iggy Pop and I were getting married. That was a sign of respect. Creem was like a cross between Rolling Stone and Mad; they covered music but with a s

Quote24FPSBut have they added much to their musical legacy that wasn't already set by 2007? Not in my opinion. You're probably right about the legacy, but I like "Doom and Gloom" better than anything on A Bigger Bang.

QuoteWhale It used to be real hard to get to hear Run Rudolph Run. There wasn't even ebay to buy it. Now you can just download it. So all those people who have "run rudolph run" or the cd single of "she was hot" don't know what to do with it anymore. They are just things now, they no longer serve a purpose. The only thing they still are is collectibles. But ther

Wow, I'd never heard this one before. Good stuff -- the band is firing on all cylinders. I'm really surprised they didn't complete this one, but they had so much first-rate material to choose from back then.

Quote71Tele I am more curious as to why they seemed to rotate between "Richards" and "Richard" at least through the B&B album. Dropping the terminal R was Oldham's idea. If I understand correctly it was to create some sort of association with Cliff Richard in the fans' minds.

Quotewhitem8 I loved the Japanese import of Goat's Head, with the lyric sheet saying Star Bucker, Star Bucker, Star Bucker! Those were the "official" lyrics, apparently. I remember looking through the published music book of the album.

It occurred to me one day that the newer Stones releases weren't on their "Rolling Stones Records" label anymore, and I did a web search to see if I could find out when the band shut it down. I was led to an informative thread on this board.

I can't stand this song. It's just awful. I hate the calypso rhythm, Jagger's affected singing, the grating mix, and ever so much more. Literally everything about this song rubs me the wrong way.

Quotemarlau It's true that they don't have to be friends to do what they do now, but I think that to go on tour for about a year or two, you need to appreciate the guys with who you are... If I must go on tour with people that I hate, I don't think that I would want to do that... For a few hundred million bucks I would go on tour with my worst enemy if the amenities were what the

QuoteDiamondDog7 Terrible terrible terrible lousy track!! Hate this song on the album. Can't understand why people like this song??! It's just plain awful! But hey, it's a matter of taste... I've noticed something funny about Stones fans (or at least the people on this board). We all truly love the band's music, but we all seem to truly hate a handful of tracks, see

I often wonder what the difference would be in today's Stones if he was still around. I always though Stu and Charlie were paired souls, friends away from the music and both unconcerned about stardom and rock and roll lifestyle. One of th

QuoteRedhotcarpet QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteRedhotcarpet Paradoxically, this tune is mentioned everytime credits are debated, as some sort of proof of how worthless Brian Jones was. Not this time? I meant he would have been better off without this credit because this is always used as an example of songs penned by Jones. As if this is the only thing he ever wrote. I don't think it&

Quotetreaclefingers No problem...that line is not mine, and is inherently sarcastic. It's the 'back door' way of telling someone, "you're full of sh*t". I never knew that. I'm familiar with the phrase, but I had always assumed that the people saying it really meant they'd rather have a good story than the boring truth. Live and learn...

QuoteRomanCandle Am I the only one who doesn't like this song? There are at least two of us. I've never cared for it. It just seems like a riff with no actual song underlying it, and the riff itself is trying too hard to "sound like the Stones". It's crossed way over the line into self-parody territory. Also, the lyrics are just terrible. "If you start me up I&#

Quotebam Winwood has denied playing on Memo from Turner. The version on Metamorphosis is not the version on YouTube I linked to, which has the same vocals as the final released version, but completely different backing tracks. I'm not familiar enough with Traffic to have an opinion, but this is the version that supposedly has its members backing Jagger.

QuoteSilverBlanket He played on one of the versions of memo from turner, from the film performance featuring Mick Here it is. As a non-musician, I am constantly impressed by things like this. In interviews, Jagger seems to say that he had nothing to do with it after laying down the vocals. They replaced the entirety of the backing tracks to create the version we know from the film soundtrack

It really impresses me how Jagger recorded a new vocal track over the same backing and made a completely different song out of it. "Pay Your Dues" isn't "Street Fighting Man" with different lyrics, it's another song.
