Finally! Someone who appreciates Dickinson's contributions to that band. I nearly squealed like a little girl when I heard he was joining the Crowes, however, to my surprise, most Crowes fans don't like the guy. I even heard someone say something as blasphemous as "that guy plays too much slide, can't he play anything else?" Some people, I swear...

Sarcasm my dear Stargroover, sarcasm. I think all of those 70s Stones records are good by any standard, unless you want to unfairly compare them to the masterpieces released from 68-72. And unfortunately I think a lot of people did, but as time goes on those albums sound better and better. As I've stated before, Black and Blue was not an album I got into right away. It took years. It grows a

'Black and Blue'? That old piece of crap record? Let's see.. I like 'Hot Stuff' and 'Memory Motel.' I love 'Hand of Fate,' 'Hey Negrita,' 'Oh Cherry,' and 'Crazy Mama' is one of my all-time favorite Stones' tunes. Too bad that album is so bad.

Lets say those unfounded rumors are true, and the Rolling Stones do record new music, or at the very least re-work outtakes from the last 3 or 4 albums. Who would you like to do the producing? And would you be satisfied/excited to hear it was Don Was? My Pick: Ethan Johns, son of Glynn, and producer of the best releases by Ryan Adams and Kings of Leon. The guy has got an ear for dirt nasty ro

The Crowes are a great working r and r band...and I am seeing them Sunday in OH! YAY! I Can't wait! Loud raucous rock and roll on my fourth weekend. YAY! Have a great time! I'm catching them in Louisville next weekend -- it'll be my umpteenthmillionth time, and I'm still excited. I like the direction this band is going. Loved WARPAINT, Lions not so much. But this is now a b

Funny. I guess I'm wrong, but I always kind of considered BLACK AND BLUE, Ronnie's album. Had no idea he only played on two tracks, and have certainly felt all these years that his contribution is noticeable throughout, maybe more so than any record the band has recorded since. I guess if you try hard enough you learn something new everyday. I must also say that over the years BLACK

I'm listening to my favorite "band you've never heard" the Dexateens. They are set to release a new album in May called "Single Wide," and have posted a song from the album on their MySpace page that has me excited about the new release. Any Stones fan or fan of open-g sloppy rock should hear this group. They are my favorite band right now!

If you are a big fan of the band then don't ruin it by going. Crosby and Nash are still capable of displaying those incredible harmonies, but Stills can't hang. Not only that he often gets in the way. My advice, if its Crosby&Nash or Crosby Stills Nash & Young, go. Otherwise I'd stay home and listen to the first 2 records, 4-way Street, Songs for Beginners, If I Could Only

The voice of God sounds like a bottle-neck slide and a Gibson-SG in the hands of Duane Allman. As good as that band is today with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks, I can't even imagine how great it must have been to witness those Fillmore East shows. Probably more than I could handle.

Quotebuffalo7478 Sharon Jones is the real deal. Maybe in her early 50's and not a physically attractive woman, you won't see her on MTV, but a great band and great voice for soul. Oh but how Ms. Jones' show oozes sex, and a must see for any fan of rootsy/bluesy/Stax-ish soul... They just don't do it like she does it anymore.

Otis Redding is my favorite singer (period). But I'd have to say that Donny Hathaway or Curtis Mayfield were the last great soul singers. That is of course, if you ignore Sharon Jones. Amy Winehouse ain't bad either.

Quotegmanp Wow, a previous poster listed Nashville '97. It was cold as the night went on, but the best sound I'd ever heard at a concert, from where we were sitting everything was crystal clear, fabulous. I've heard Memphis Pyramid show in '99 had good sound, but for us everything was muddy as all get out. I actually thought the Vanderbilt Stadium (Nashville '97) show

Gaylord Entertainment Center (NASHVILLE, TN) November 25, 2002 (For a brief period I questioned my sanity for ever paying that much for a ticket to see a rocknroll show and wandered if I'd ever bother to ever pay more that $25 to see any band or musician again in my life).

I supplement my measly income with the even more measly income of a freelance writer. I spend about 4 hours a night writing after getting high. I wake up the next day to find that 80% of what I wrote the night before is dribble, but it's that 20% that makes it worth while -- panic attacks and all. I've also been told by a physician that smoking pot after a certain age minimizes the posi

By the way from4tillate, if you are who I think you are, then I have no business telling you anything about what's good and not good about music in Nashville - or anywhere for that matter. Especially since one of best concerts in my rock and roll life remains a show I was lucky enough to catch at the Exit/Inn with a great band of yours opening for Baird that included you joining him onstage

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 Gene, I don';t think they are playing anymore, the Yayhoos I mean. I knew some of those people Keith C, the Hellhounds, the Ricks. I really had forgotten about them. I heard "Another Chance" today which honestly is one of my favorite songs ever. Reminds me of "Ooh La La". Baird openly admits that the song is just Ooh La La with the chords in

Heard the Homemade Sin record and loved it! Totally forgot about that band, which in some circles (the few good ones in Nashville) that is an all-star band. Warner Hodges shreds! The fact that Baird continues to record and produce always keeps me looking forward to something.

underappreciated by whom? There are several posters here who worship this album and have even named themselves after it. I am not among them... I hope I am not breaking any message board rules by including people outside this message board who write, review, and pontificate about music. With no doubt I bet we could find a number of people like you and me who love Voodoo Lounge on this board, b

T & A and Palace Revolution: You just gained countless "cool points" in my score book. Dan Baird is a hero, the Georgia Satellites are probably one of the most underrated rock and roll (and I do mean ROCK N ROLL) bands ever! Baird was in a band this decade called the Yayhoos with Eric "Roscoe" Ambel, Terry Anderson, and Keith Christopher. The group's debut "

Quotetrainarollin Not sure if Beyonce would fly? People in the Southern Reigions of America can't pronounce her name. CSNY would be neat, but very unpleasant to the eye. I'm pushing for (pardon the pun): Elton John People in the Southern "Reigions" have taste, not to mention tact.

QuoteJatimmer Bruce did a heck of a job. I'm obviuosly biased towards the Stones so I asked my wife what she thought....she said that the Boss blew the Stones away. I said maybe a bit but Mick Jagger would NEVER pull the antics that Bruce did last night....I mean come on....that intro was weird and he changed the lyrics....something the Stones would never do!!! Don't forget the litt

I hate that he felt compelled to play an unworthy new song from a pretty disappointing album, but hey he has to sell records and I bet he did after that performance. I couldn't ask for a better half-time show. After Petty and Springsteen, I almost have that awful taste of the Stones unfortunate Super Bowl appearance completely washed from my pallet.

Keeping in mind that you're a Stones fan I'd have to say... Dexateens (www.myspace.com/dexateens) or Drive-by-Truckers or Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings or Black Keys or My Morning Jacket certainly Wilco or the old stand-by Black Crowes
