Saw him last night in Rochester NY, and it was great, although I was depressed at how small the crowd was. Didn't seem to bother Mac in the least though - he made some jokes about it and proceeded to play for a little less than 2hrs, cranking out some terrific music. I just recently bought a new amp that I think has a really nice, chunky sound. Orange's Tiny Terror. Low power (can select between 7 and 15 watts) 3 knobs - volume, tone, gain Plenty loud enough for practice, studio, small clubs just a really neat little amp. I got the head, but you can also get it as a small combo amp. Not sure this will help you address your quest for Keith'

I just picked up the VGP Boot "Keep You Motor Runnin'" which is supposedly the closest thing you can get to the ill-fated '72 live album. Combines Houston & Philly material. Man - it is just an awesome disc. I think it actually does have some overdubbing and mixing becauses they are allegedly actual tracks that were destined for the released album. The last time I think they put on a really interesting show was during the No Security tour - I saw them in Toronto (can't remember if it was Maple Leaf Gardens or Air Canada Centre) - anyway, that was the last time I've seen them play some really different songs, high-energy, dirty guitars...overall less "produced" than sunsequent outings IMHO. Anyone here ever listened to Vinyl Gang's "Keep Your Motor Runnin'" (VGP-273)...I recently read this is supposed to be the closest thing you can get to the live album from the '72 tour that never came to be.....

Ronnie's comment on Flea is interesting - it's really incredible how many of today's bands love The Faces. There are some cool quotes in the booklet that acompanies 5 Guys Walked into a Bar from guys like Slash & others who really loved the band. Cool stuff.

cannot remember the number to this one either, but there's one that features 2 shows, one being from the Syracuse War Memorial in 1976 or 77 that I really like. Also - Cow Palace, New Year's 1977 is awesome (but not a Dick's Picks)

Listening to Get Yer Ya Yas Out, and it's really cool how Keith's guitar tone on Street Fighting Man gradually goes to somewhat clean (at the beginning of the song) to downright nasty by the end. I've never really thought of him as one to be fooling with his volume & tone onstage, but he obviously was here...killer.
