I saw him in '98 with Joni minus Van (the great Dave Alvin opened). It was Joni's birthday -- they brought out a cake and the crowd sang. This was after some jerk heckled and was ejected for yelling "Bring out Bob" at a most inappropriate moment. Joni's response: "Screw you, I'm as good as Bob!"
