I see this argument hashed out all the time over at Progressive Ears. I can guess what kind of posts on a Rolling Stones board a Genesis topic will generate. Something like when Rolling Stones topice are posted on a Prog board. In any case, this is probably a nice collection for those who just want the highlights of Genesis long career. I say just buy the original albums. You'll get a b

I agree the McCartney is a pretty special album. Caught me completly off guard. This is his 4th in a row that have been really strong(Flaming Pie, Run Devil Run and Driving Rain being the other 3). This one could be the best of the lot. Someone mentioned we still have Ringo around. I don't know if anybody has checked out his new album, but it might be the best solo album he has ever r

Oh please. As long as this recovery will take, I think that the money could have been donated next week, next month or next year and would be useful. My hat's off to the Stones for their kind AND GENOROUS offering. Bill

Roger Daltrey was right in 1975 when he said rock has no future. It's a dead format at radio and straight ahead rock is quickly becoming relagated to being a niche format. In 20 years people will talk about groups like the Stones as people now talk about Prog Rock and bands like Yes, King Crimson, Camel and others of the genre. It's not about music anymore or music and an image(like

I think if the Rolling Stones want to continue to make albums, they will. Charlie has said if this one is liked they would do another in a similar style, so I think Sales are important to the band. At the same time, the Stones have averaged around 2 million in sales during the initial release period for new studio records. The Stones are a band that really gets their sales over the long haul.

Normally I would agree that 45 minutes is the perfect length for a studio album and that anything beyond 50 is too long, but considering the Stones have released only 4 new songs in the last eight years, I think it's OK for them to add a few more. Thier longest album is Exile and It's considered by most, including myself, as thier greatest achievement, and that was in the day you made

But what everybody seems to forget is that before Page, blues singers ripped off each other. Some of these songs are so old that nobody really knows who wrote them. Look at "Matchbox". Many would think of Carl Perkins but that song goes back to at least Blind Lemon Jefferson. Some of the material credited to Robert Johnson also goes back before his time. Anybody remember "

In reference to an earlier post, regarding "Got Live if You Want It", the occasional extra live track from early Stones records, the EP and Rock and Roll Circus do not make up for a proper live document of the Jones era. Jones didn't exactly wipe the floor on RnR Circus. He was on his way out. We have a great live album with Taylor with Ya Ya's and we have several live reco

It's a bad edit, but, I had never noticed it until I read about it here. Most people don't. I'm not going to let an edit that lasts for millisecond ruin my enjoyment of a fine record. Sure, someone should have caught it. But think back to "Got Live if You Want It" that's quite possibly the worst live album ever released by anyone. I think that's the one to g

I've sat down with Live Licks over the weekend. I heard one poor edit coming off the slow section in Rocks Off, other than that I really didn't hear much wrong with it and maintain that Live Licks is still a great live album. Bill

I do agree LL was somewhat pointless on the heels of the DVD. I haven't noticed the editing, but I'll go have a listen and see what the fuss is about. Any song in particular stand out in regards to editing? Bill

Call me crazy, but I think "Live Licks" is a great live Stones record. "No Security" isn't bad, I like the fact it was released as a double LP. LL should have been, but setting that to one side, I thought LL rocked harder than any live Stones album since Love You Live. It was loud and in your face. The old standards had plenty of life and the the second disc had some

I think the film is very much a time capsule of that era. So on that basis alone I like the film. The concert footage of the Stones with Stevie Wonder ain't to shabby either. It could have been better, but it is what it is. I certainly say if you've never seen it, to pick it up. Bill

While I'm sure Virgin will have vinyl available for the record, my question is will it be released the same day as the cd or will it be released two weeks later? I will not be sucked into purchasing this on CD to only have to rebuy two weeks later on vinyl. Anyone know the answer and if the commercial single release will have an unreleased track? Bill

I think the venue and sound mix may be the problems in understanding the words as much as anything. I've seen him every year since 2002. In Winston-Salem in '02 and in Zebulon this year I was able to hear his vocals clearly, but in Cary, NC in '03 and Richmond last year the mix was not as crisp and Richmond suffered from echo throughout the stadium. His vocal delivery is anythin

I saw Bob about 3 weeks ago in Zebulon, NC. I've seen him 8 times and once for the last four years. He rarely speaks to any audience. Dylan has lived a much different existence from The Beatles or the Stones. They all had the other band members to share thier experiences with but Bob is a solo artist and while he's had bands perform with him, they change fairly frequently and, to so

Most of my Stones albums are the orginal vinyl editions. I've picked up a few resissues on vinyl, but not many. I've got the original Now! album on the red London label and it still sounds great nearly 40 years on. Of course care has been given to keep it sounding good. I did buy later editions of the first album and Got Live if You Want It. Stripped did sound better on LP than C

Does anyone know why Virgin did not decide to officially release this or Live Licks on vinyl? It seems with the recent upsurge in vinyl releases that these would have been two perfect albums for the format. Bill

I've bought more vinyl in the last year than I have since 1990. Stuff I had no idea was available I've been able to find: Deep Purple's Bananas album, Yes-Union, The Ladder, and Somethings Coming, The Who's BBC Sessions, Led Zeppelin's BBC Sessions and the list goes on and on. I still wish that 40 Licks and Live Licks had been made available. Maybe someone like Classic

I figured I was out of luck with those albums. But I guess there is hope for the new album on vinyl, after all the new Robert Plant & Van Morrison albums are on vinyl so I suspect that the Stones album will be too. Virgin released Mick's last album on vinyl as well. EMI has been good about it for the most part. So we will see. Bill

28. Vinyl
I'm a new guy. I've occasionally read a few things, but this is the first post I've made. I'm glad to see that the Stones are about to hit the road with a new record. I'm curious if anyone knows if the new album will be available on LP. Gotta have the black circle. Also, I haven't seen 40 Licks or Live Licks on LP either. I know Jump Back was on vinyl. If anyon
