Sometime in the '90s, at MSG, Mick was bemoaning about the tech difficulties they were experiencing when first firing up their instruments on the B-stage (I think Ronnie's guitar could not be heard at all). During that awkward pause, someone started in on "Little Red Rooster" and one-by-one the whole band (including Ronnie eventually) came in to play the whole song, on the sp

So unfortunate, but entirely avoidable. Two steps. Doesn't matter in what order you do them, but both are important: Make sure you have a will (particularly if you are someone whose estate may continue to generate revenues after death). Make sure you know and trust who you marry.

Finally saw it. Remarkable. It miraculously and successfully brought out the humanity within people who were, at that time, incapable of being truly human due to the substances, the money, the fame, the business, “the ‘org’”. (For more background and contrast, read the filmmaker Robert Frank’s candid comments on the horrors of being caught up in the Rolling Stones’ orbit circa the early ‘70s.)

LYL has been so criticized over the years. Thank goodness for my unsophisticated ears because I have always loved it. The artwork, the energy, the Aaron Copeland music that introduced them like gladiators as the Lotus Stage unfolded, the sweaty crowd on the El Mocambo side, the dueling guitar solos on Sympathy..I wore out every version I ever owned. Plus, whenever you are missing Charlie Watt

I just love the track. I run out of words to describe how brilliant every bit of BS is. Why did Nirvana and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" take hold in a similar way some 20+ years after BS? I am usually stopped in my tracks whenever I hear and feel music that captures the carnal, primal nature of being a live animal. Jagger and Richards, two English gentlemen, and the group of musician

Nothing good about TM. Glad to see scrutiny like this coming down on them. I would rather go back to sleeping out on the pavement overnight if it meant getting a more fair chance than TM's rigged system provides me.

No flames here, RollingFreak, good luck with everything and congrats on the nuptials. I absolutely love blasting that track, getting inside of it and letting it get inside of me. There is so much going on, no telling how many guitars are in there. I go nuts when they play it live, Keith on his Gibson throwing off all that Chuck Berry two-string staccato like only he can. Check them out on th

Don't know why this caught my eye (for all I know, it may happen all the time), but "Miss You" at Metlife Show 1 featured all 3 of them playing Strats. Also, Keith's had a maple neck. For some reason I don't associate him with that guitar.

Forgive me if I am not up to speed or if this has already been discused: East Rutherford Show 2 featured a little Robert Johnson "Come On In My Kitchen" interlude during Midnight Rambler. Incredible blues and playfulness between Keith and Mick. Does anyone know if that is a commonly played interlude in that song, or if it has ever been done before? I was at MetLife in 2019 but I don

Some really insightful, lovely, and humane comments on this thread; thanks! After finishing "Life" I thought, "I hope Marlon Richards writes a book someday...THAT'S the guy who I really want to hear from on all of this. That's the story I REALLY want to know." Sounds like this documentary may be as close as we get. I look forward to seeing it. Yes, his fat

This is such a great question, and I am sure that the answers will run the entire gamut between "yes," "no," and everything in between. Here is what I tell everyone, young and old, when they are trying to decide whether to buy tickets to see the Rolling Stones: You will probably be surprised at how "off" they can seem at times. Original member Bill Wyman like

QuoteJavadave More like Rest In Cheese. That dude mostly played a way to crassly commercial and "smooth" style of Jazz for my tastes. I'm sure he was a great dude, but honestly, I am much more moved by the passing of B-Movie legendary director/producer Roger Corman than I am of David Sanborn. Cheese? Wow, I think you might be confusing him with some other alto sax smoothies

QuoteRisingStone QuoteDGee First album I ever stole. Can you please list all the records you have stolen? That was it. Truly. I refer to it as the first album I ever "stole" in response to an oft-quoted question (and regular feature in Mojo or Uncut, I believe), "what's the first album (or record) you ever bought?" Can't remember that one, but I can remember

First album I ever stole. From Barry's Records Tapes, on E. 23rd Street, NYC. The Polydor import from the UK, with the naked girl on the cover, holding the airplane (the US version just had a photo of the band on the cover). Taught myself the riff from "Had to Cry Today" on my first electric guitar. Blissful memories. Thanks!

I honestly don't remember Pret-a-Porter very much. I saw it in the theatre when it first came out, chiefly for the Stones track. As I remember, it was all about the world of high fashion and super models and, consequently, the Stones' music fit like a hand in a glove. Viewing wiki today, the film (released in the US as, "Ready To Wear") looks a little dated. But who knows,

"Jump On Top of Me," in the film, "Pret-a-Porter." So deep it couldn't even be called a "cut;" it never even made it onto "Voodoo Lounge." So deep it was the B-side of that album's second single, "You Got Me Rocking."

I agree, no live version ever matched the chugging, gritty, funky, galloping roll of the studio version. It always seemed too fast in live versions. However sped up it might still be, my favorite live version is when it was the show opener (around '72 or '73). The Robert Frank film (C'sucker Blues) captures that. The best audio version of that is on a bootleg from (what I was to

Still liking the odds on this one. Last SNL season finale was April 15, 2023. Not sure when the SNL season finale will be next spring. But Stones open their 2024 North American tour on April 28, 2024. They probably don't "need" to sell tickets, but an SNL spot within a week or two of a North American tour certainly doesn't hurt. Let it (30) Rock!

Wondering if the IORR universe can literally will this into being...
