How, with so many 'conquests', is it that he never had any 'surprises' ...as in 'hi, Mr. Wyman, you're my father..' bless the man, he's good at many things.

Jam on that harp Mick! according to Keith thats where you find the 100% unadulterated Mick Jagger. I saw a band over the weekend, Mac Arnold and Full Plate of Blues,...this band was top notch and Mac Arnold is a veteran, played bass with many of the greats. but speaking of blues and harp, the harp player in the band, one Max Hightower, was fantastic. anybody seen this great blues band?

I'd love to hear more jams. they do it and probably love it, why not have more of the element of improvisation, and stretch out a little. good for everybody, Mick can go on a harp solo, he's good at that.

Your writing about the Stones, and music, is missed! Where are you, and what's happened with the Gram Parsons biography you were going to write? I sure would like to read that. You are uniquely qualified to write about him. I hope its still in the works. DR

Charlie clearly loves the lyrical aspect of jazz, the era when it was popular music, since he's made at least 3 cd's paying homage to that music. he's said in interviews how much he likes Dave Tough's playing, and Max Roach. I'd love to hear Charlie discuss music in genearal and jazz in particular. He also loves more recent players, especially Tony Williams. I've

awesome, T&A..that you got that music to Mac, so cool! I saw Jimmy Smith and Stanley Turrentine at a festival in Charlotte NC about 16 years ago, it was perfect. that festival also had the Modern Jazz Quartet, I saw them too, been a fan since. particularly like Milt Jackson, a great blues player maybe the greatist vibes player. do you like Bobby Timmons? he had the funkiest touch I'v

started out listening to jazz that blended r&b influences, particularly The Crusaders (on Ronnie's solo album "Gimme Some Neck" the Crusaders' bass player Pops Popwell is featured) and Ramsey Lewis, among some others..War was a great band that had a lot of jazz influence. that gets you to the real stuff. My favorite era was the 6o's Blue Note stuff, so many great

just reflecting on how well percussion has been added to so many Stones songs. Tambourine in Satsfaction, shakere or maracas in Gimme Shelter...cowbell in HTW..then the whole tour with Ollie Brown...adds so much to the groove. I reckon its more subtle now, with Bernard and Blondie adding various bits. I wonder what Mr. Ollie Brown has been up to? DR

Happy Birthday Charlie Watts! we cannot thank you enough for the groove you play for the greatest rock and roll band ever. If not for you there'd be no Stones. Your playing is the link between jazz blues soul and rock. the simplicity and feeling you play with has meant the world to me, and I thank you for your example, as a musician and for the human being you are. duke richardson

'deuce and a quarter' well if you mean Levon's side of the Band story especially about Robbie Robertson, as told in 'This Wheel's on Fire', I don't doubt Levon's telling. He's not bitter for himself but for the effect Robertson's financial moves had on Rick Danko and Richard Manuel...thats how I read it anyway. DR

hi B R Queen, thanks for the tip on the Dr John cd, I will check that one out. kind of like Charlie and Bernard's efforts, only with a little New Orleans flavor..? Did anyone see the Levon Helm Band on the Imus show Wednesday AM? man it was great to see/hear Levon, and the band was excellent of course. Levon played guitar on one song, mandolin on the other. the man is a soul survivor

we Stones fans know Levon is along with Charlie the most soulful drummer in rock and roll. Happy Birhday Levon, and its great that you are singing again, sounding great. we hope for you and Charlie that the throat cancer is gone for good. DR
