I'm wondering if anyone can offer recommendations on the best compilations of Stones 1970s studio outtakes, for both song selection and sound quality. I've only got a couple collections so far: - "Black Box" is good, but features primarily '60s material. - "Place Pigalle" has numerous tracks, but many of them are poor fidelity and/or mono mixes. - "

Greetings, Could someone please help me download or get a CD of the soundboard recording from November 28, 1981 in Syracuse, NY? I was a kid and that was the first show I attended, so I'd like to hear it for sentimental reasons. Someone posted it here a while back at , but those links no longer work. Please reply here, or email me at: SuperAud&#

"the handclapping was uncharacteristically in unison" Pretty hilarious. I assume it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but it's hard to tell...

QuoteSlick anyone complaining about compressed sound on the dvd shouldve bought the blu-ray instead, the lossless dts-hd ma is sweeeeeeeeeeet! But I wonder if what you're hearing is basically a higher resolution transfer of the same overly-compressed tracks as in the stereo mix? I think you'd have to do an A/B comparison between the stereo mix and 5.1 mix in order to figure out how d

Quoteab "The 5.1 mix drops you right into the front row in that it features a fair amount of applause in the rear channels between songs that dies down when the band gets into a song." Does the 5.1 mix also feature greater separation between the instruments (especially the guitars), or is it fairly similar to the stereo mix in which most instruments are right in the middle? Also,

QuoteWeLoveYou "Some of the sound is very odd.... kind of phasing/flanging effects here and there" I agree. I wonder if much of this is unintentional, and perhaps due to different tracks being slightly out-of-phase during the original mixing process. "I'm planning (perhaps this weekend if I get time) to use to extract the 6 channels of audio, then hopefully create

I just watched and listened to the L&G DVD last night. Compared to bootlegs (e.g., 4Reel), the speed of the film is now accurate, and the stereo mix has been improved through EQing. However as others here have noted, ultimately the stereo mix is still the same unimpressive soundtrack from the original film. It's always been excessively compressed, which robs the music of its dynamics

"Interesting! The difference when you view them one after the other is obvious. Is it just me or is the sound mix better too?" Hard to comment on whether there's a different mix, given that the trailer has a voiceover and also edits in the songs. But I sure hope that the DVD, in addition to its 5.1 mix, also has a better stereo mix than the original L & G film -- otherwise

"unless the video was also sped up, which I would have thought would make the band appear to move in an obviously-unnatural way." The video and audio are both sped up by about 5% -- not enough to make it look or sound ridiculous, but enough to make it all sound very rushed. Again, this was a common trick on old records, intended to make them sound brighter and more energetic (a very

Interestingly, this promotional trailer for the upcoming DVD release features a snippet of "Happy," only here the speed has been corrected. Hopefully this means the actual DVD gets it right, despite the incorrect speed in the teaser clip at the start of this thread.

"The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix of Ladies & Gentlemen has been remixed and remastered from the original multitrack masters. The sound is big and ambient, really like what a 70’s quadraphonic mix would sound like." In addition to the 5.1 mix, does the DVD also feature a new stereo remix, or simply the same stereo mix as in the original film?

"What technique is used to speed up the vocals without making them sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks?" Well, basically you just speed it up a bit, but not too much... These days you can also digitally time-compress things without altering the pitch at all, but that's not what was done here. Instead, the original film was simply sped up, and apparently no one involved with t

Unfortunately, the teaser clip at the beginning of this thread has the same problems as in the original film release: - First of all, the film has been sped up. The song was played in key of B, however the accelerated speed of the film boosts it up a half-step to key of C. This may have been done in the original film in a misguided attempt to give the song more energy (a common trick on old

My appreciation to everyone who has offered their thoughts in this thread. It's been a big help. I once read an interview with Mick Taylor in which he mentioned John Coltrane as a major influence. I think that's a great reference point when listening to Mick T's best playing with the Stones -- like Trane, he had such lyrical melodies, fluid phrasing, and rich tone. ...Somethi

I'm a new collector, trying to track down the best CD releases of soundboard recordings from the '72 tour. Recently I got the "Stones Touring Party" 7 CD set. I'm wondering if anyone has compared this set to other versions of the same shows (such as "Welcome to New York," "Philadelphia Special," and the soundtrack to "Ladies and Gentlemen The
