QuoteKRiffhard ...another great SG outtake. Nice track, but isn't that from the RCA sessions in Aug. '78? It will be interesting to see if they include anything from those sessions, since they occurred after SG.

I've always liked it but I've always wondered if it wasn't an instrumental track from early to mid-70s (because of Nicky playing on it, they hadn't worked with him since IORR plus he's not featured on any other ER tracks or outtakes (as far as we know). Also, I think the only time they worked with Mardin was on "Melody" so maybe the horns were from around that t

Known instrumentals and songs Mick might've recently added vocals to include: Munich Hilton Muck Spreading Armpit Blues Broken Toe Brown Leaves Golden Caddy Light Up Sheep Dip Blues Stay Where You Are Up Against The Wall The unconfirmed tracks: We Are Ripped On Down Angeline IMHO of the known instrumentals, "Light Up" would be a strong contender for Jagger

Nice list. The exclusion of "Honest Man" from VL is still mind boggling. I'd offer "Make It Now" and "Zip Mouth Angel" as well as "Jump On Top of Me Baby" to your tracklist replacing your second "Moon Is Up," "Juglar" and "Brand New Car." QuoteJustin Quoteslew I like VL but I agree it could have been better. The band

As much as I like UC. I don't think the band ever recovered from it not being a smash #1 album, especially Jagger. They've never been as confident as recording band since IMHO. I liked how used the "cellophane trousers" B&B outtake as the foundation for "Too Tough." One thing about UC it's not a subtle album. I think that and the 80's production alie

Quotekeefbajaga Well, sometimes even a journalist who does reviews for the NYC can have an off-day... true. but this wasn't one of those days.

Great review. UC was the first truly made in the '80s Stones music and it didn't disappoint. It hinted at a lot of directions they could've went with a follow-up but instead the album became their first studio release since Let It Bleed to not top the chart. They didn't tour behind it and UC's "relative" commercial failure fed Jagger's doubts about the band

QuoteGlam Descendant >Disagree...love this album, just a tad behind Tattoo You is accurate IMHO. >Last great Stones album and highly underrated. Stellar title track as well. I totally agee with this assessment. +1 Interesting how BTB was mentioned in two of the three reviews. Though I'm not sure how the songs mentioned would've fit on BTB. They sound nothing like the

QuoteSleepy City Quotebig4 the song that bridges the britpop of BTB to the psychedelia of TSMR. Yes, I guess it does. Likewise 'Child Of The Moon' bridges TSMR & BB. I agree it does.

QuoteBlueranger A good song, would have benefitted if it wasn't so long. Almost 6.30 minutes is a bit too much. I agree that it is too long, listened to it earlier today and to me, the song loses its way at about 4:30. It would be interesting to hear the unverified version recorded earlier that year.

Quotestupidguy2 QuoteDoxa QuoteLeonidP These were the days of the great ballads, imo. Far superior to Streets of Love and/or Following the River. I always loved this one, great build-up vocally, with the background singers, well done! Yeah, those albums from GOATS HEAD SOAP to BLACK&BLUE contain many reflective ballads that are quite unique in the Stones catalog. Lyricwise Jagger is touch

It's not a bad song and is a well-crafted soul ballad, but that's what also brings it down. The mid-70s Stones created a lot of smooth, nicely produced soul/r&b ballads. But compared to "Let It Loose" for example or "Winter" and they sound somewhat plastic-a lot style, some substance but the gritty textures of the earlier music was gone, and so was that edge in J

QuoteRobertJohnson I think it is an early version of "If You Really Want to be My Friend" from IORR. I hear a bit of Winter and Till The Next Goodbye in it also.

they veered toward a more hard rock sound during UC/DW, especially the guitars, but it would be a stretch except maybe a song or two on each to even consider the band or those albums as hard rock. IMHO

you gotta hand it to Jagger, pushin' 70 in 2011 and he's still lookin' like and has the moves of when he was pushin' 40 in 1981. Joss Stone is very nice to look at and listen to.

Stones almost legendary glam funk hybrid. Falls a bit short of the mark however. A fun listen regardless, always loved the bridge oh and the rotating riff-which was re-worked for "Hand of Fate"

One of the things I liked about the UC/DW era of the Stones was Mick's return to writing topical or social commentary type of lyrics. The Stones greatest works like Gimme Shelter or even Mother's Little Helper are examples of this. I think that's always been one of the band's strengths-writing songs that are saying "something" without being preachy.

Quotehailtothestones Love the song. Everytime I heard this Franz Ferdinand song I always thought the chorus was a steal from the Stones. yeah i always thought that main riff was a direct rip from dance. isn't dance 1 & 2 the same backing track, diff. being length and jagger's lyrics. i always thought keith was referring to Dance pt.1 not the instrumental. but i'd say the
