I SORRY MY IGNORANCE, BUT I THOUGHT THAT "ACETATES" WAS JUST A MIDDLE BEFORE VYNIL'S TIME, BUT I SEE THERE ARE CDS ACETATES AND WITH "DIFFERENT SOUNDS OR RIPS" FROM SILVER CD ..... WHAT IS REALLY CDS "ACETATES "????
AFAIK the term is used to denote recording of the same use as the old acetates - i.e. to communicate in-house the different early ideas and versions before release determinations are made. These are usually CD-Rs with no artwork, or just improvised basic info, frequently hand-inscribed.
These are different from the Promo CD-Rs, which contain finalized versions sent to radio stations, record stores etc. which have better artwork - sometimes just printed, sometimes more elaborate.
I see that there are recordings "ACETATES" 1973/1974 with different versions of the official ones, they are only different because of the "rips" or are they really other versions ??? this goes for 1981 era, and "NO Spare Parts" cd-r promo not for sale "ACETATES" ???
