Hi Chris, I've had the message "Buffer underun activated - burn process failed". I think the last time I got that the files were 24 bit. Are these 24 bit too?..............

An easy (and free) software is Wavosaur ( [www.wavosaur.com] )
First convert from flac to wav.

Open Wavosaur,
In "tools" choose "Batch processor", then in pop-up choose Source and destination directories, then in "function" choose "convert to 16 bits, hit start and wait until the program has finished converting. Open the destination folder and there are your 16 bit files.

Ok, cheers Chris, ok, I've downloaded that and I can see the instructions from "Open Wavosaur". In "tools" choose "Batch processor" etc but how do I convert from Flac to Wav first using this?
I tried doing that earlier with Nero but it kept crashing at "Get off of my cloud".................

You can do that with the free software "Format Factory".

Strange...
I downloaded that software AFTER you asked how to convert from 24 to 16 and used it myself for the first time and over here it's working.
The resulting wav files play normal....

the audio properties of goomc.flac =
dvd audio:
sample rate 48 KHz
sample size 24 bit
bit rate 2.304 kbps

when converting to cd audio,
adjust the settings to the format
cd audio:
sample rate 44.1 KHz
sample size 16 bit
bit rate 1.411 kbps

only changing the sample size from 24bit to 16bit
will result in noise.....

Strange, I checked my 16 bit wav files and they are 48 KHz, but they do play in VLC (I didn't try to burn on CD).

not that strange:
- vlc on a computer plays
...much audio formats

- but a audio cd for a cd-player always contain
uncompressed pcm stereo audio at
44100 Hz sample rate, 16-bit sample format.

so to burn an audio cd from these files:
* first convert the files 44100 Hz 16-bit stereo WAV's
* than burn these files to cd

btw: it's the same procedure as in
quad stereo downmix to cd

Ah OK, got it!
I don't burn many CD's anymore; they are all on my HDD's and when I want to listen to a show, I'll do it through my PC. (using foobar now, as with VLC, I have millisecond gaps between tracks). BTW just as info; Foobar also plays the 16 bit, 48 KHz files.

for gapless playing in foobar, go to
* file - preferences - output
* set values as shown in the picture:

I can't get any of these to work...............sad smiley

Nero. 24 bit Flac (original files) >< 16 bit wav = Not possible.
Nero won't allow bit size change or frequency alteration (even though the options for that are in a dialogue box/menu?confused smiley?)
So, I can convert to 24 bit wav with Hz of 4800. Nothing else allowed. When I convert that to 16 bit using Wavosaur, it won't allow a change of frequency so I just get static.

If I try converting straight from Flac to Wav or Sample 44100Hz or 16 bits with wavosaur it just says "Format not supported" - so that's no good either.

Chris, do you think you could post your 16 bit version when you've got time?...........(see if I can burn that...........

I meant that I could play gapless with Foobar, but not with VLC, and that that was the reason I now use Foobar for complete shows (VLC or other for a single track or for video because I still didn't couple Flac and Wav with Foobar, LOL! Going to do that right away before I forget again)

Thanks for the 48 Hz solution; I'll keep that in mind when I post something again!

Sure, I'll post the link in my first post as "16 Bit version", and will make a post here when it's ready. (the file is, but I'm just going to do a quick check of all files before making the rar file and upload)

Cheers Chris, thanks very much, I'll let you know how I get on...............(I even tried re downloading the original 24 bit file just in case something went wrong there,,,,,,,,and, I converted from 24Flac _ 24 Wav using Nero and then used Wavosaur to try and lower the frequency - that looked ok until I tried to add the files to Nero to burn, Nero said the files were corrupt.....................So........a bit of a mystery - to me at least....confused smiley

At a loss now, exactly the same, Nero crashed and then froze up my PC..........confused smiley

(Still not sure why Nero wouldn't burn Wav as I do have an audio plugin for them??

Thanks for sharing.
FWIW I unzip these and take them from FLAC to 320 MP3 files.
I then transfer the MP3 to my phone
Listening in the car or at the gym, I can't really notice much difference between FLAC and 320MP3. Especially when dealing with audience recordings, as good as they are these days!
Maybe I need better headphones.
Anybody have any experience with this?
Maybe I need more time to sit and listen to CDs.....
