Request help: How to Rip DVD audio to MP3

I have a collection of DVD concerts (U2, Bruce, Stones, etc). I would like to be able to make copies of the audio to CD so I can listen to it in my car. I found this article below using software like VLC and HandBrake and attempted to make a copy of the U2 PopMart show from Mexico that was commercially released and it came out less than perfect (scrathy, started and stopped). I don't know if I had to adjust the settings on Handbrake which are pretty extensive for better results or that the DVD is made not to be copied. I am not the most technically proficient person when it comes to this stuff and would really like some advice from someone who is more familiar with this than me. If there is other free and easier software out there that I should be using, that would also be helpful. Any assistance with this would be appreciated

You could try the 'DVD Audio Extractor': [www.dvdae.com] .

Yes. "DVD Audio Extractor" is great but it is only free for a 30 day trial.

"AcidRip" also works and it is completely free. For BSD , Apple Mac , and Linux systems. There is no Windows version of "AcidRip" as far as I know.

Alternatively, you could convert the DVD's to .MKV files (MakeMKV software perhaps) and then from there rip the audio from those .MKV files.

I would rip the files to .WAV instead of .mp3 especially if you intend to burn them to a CD-R anyway.

What OS?

And why not pay a bit? It will probably cost only a few cents per CD, and you support the developers.

Why not pay a bit?? Different people are in different situations. Some people have extra money, some people do not.

Some people can afford to support chosen groups of software developers. Some people don't have spare money to spend on a task which can be accomplished free of charge. Some people have more critical areas to allocate their financial resources.

It all depends on an individual's unique personal situation.

Thank you very much. I looked at this site and the process for burning does not look to difficult. If I like the results, I will end the 30 day trial and pay for a subscription.... The resources like you guys on the IORR site are awesome! Much appreciated.

Hi Francois. I looked at this video converter. You can get a download version that is 64 bits and another that is 32 bits. As I am technically challenged (LOL), which one would I download?

step 01: extract audio from dvd

don't worry about 32 or 64 bits, the latest suits both.
visit freemake and
download freemake video converter

or

direct download fvc 4.1.10

^-_-*-_-^-_-*-_-^-_-*-_-^-_-*-_-^-_-*-_-^-_-*-_-^-_-*-_-^-_-*-_-^-_-*-_-^-_-*-_-

could be you are running a windows 32-bit version.
only than you need a 32-bit freemake.

look here to find out:
is my windows 64-bit or 32-bit?

once you know what version (xp, vista etc) and 32 or 64 bit,
go to this site
and choose there the download for your system

this said: i think freemake is too much for your needs.
go for dvd audio extractor
it's easy, quick and reliable.

step 2:
burn audio cd for car
the burning really depends on what your car optical drive can read [mp3, wav, flac, wma etc.]
therefor you have to check the car's manual.
unless your car stereo specifies the format,
mp3 music files burned onto a CD won't play in your car's stereo.

my recommandation:
- check your cars optical drive possibilities
- let dvd audio extract to one of these
- burn the cd this audio format

j.b.goode- Thanks so much. Your post has been really helpful. What CD burner do you advise for using with this software (that allows for little or no gaps)?

The .WAV format for CD players is 16-bits / 44.1 kHz. (44,100 Hz) stereo .... 2 channels.

This will work on all functioning CD players which can play CD-R discs.

As long as there are no problems with the CD-R Disc itself, the CD-R burner used,or the software used.

I don't see any point in spending time checking to see if these other lossy formats will work with your CD player or not when you could just use lossless , RedBook CD standard .WAV files.

The ONLY reason against this would be to cram more tracks per CD-R at the expense of compression.

There are several programs for free from 4K company (downloading & converting) also a converter video to mp3: "4K Video to MP3", see here: [www.4kdownload.com]
All programs working fine and are easy to use (but they are with advertising).
Best program in my opinion is the 4K Video Downloader for downloading Youtube clips in 4K or HD quality.

After I have extracted audio from a DVD, what recommended CD burners are out there that will allow me to burn a CD with no gaps?

cdBurnerXP [despite its name it can be used in all windows versions]
can do gapless burning and has an easy-to-use interface.

download latest version for your system.

choose the righ burning options:

- no pause
- finalize disc

other questions? look here

Just an FYI- I have used CDBurner XP which is pretty straightforward to use. However, I recently upgraded to the latest version (my mistake) which does not allow you to burn CDs gapless anymore. You have to choose pauses of how many seconds in between tracks. I discovered this recently when I attempted to make a copy of a music CD that already had music gaps in it of 4 seconds. When I attempted to burn the new copy with CD Burner XP -low and behold the settings via the newest version were different and did not allow you to record gapless!

Holy crap j.b.goode! Excuse my ignorance, but it never occurred to me that I could download an earlier version of this software! Boy, I am learning a lot today (LOL)!

For those that have used DVD Audio Extractor in order to make CDs to listen to, what is preferable for best sound when selecting the audio stream to use, LPCM (48kHz 16 bit 2 channel) or English AC3 (48kHz 6ch)?

Thank you to "The Don." In my limited techno savvy mind (LOL) I kind of thought so but wanted to make sure....
