This is interesting, I got this a while back from Dime & there's only 2 versions on it. I is 3:53 & II is 4:01, there is no III.

I do have a III from a private compilation & this runs @ 4.54. This version is on youtube where it's labeled as IV, but I believe that's incorrect as IV is the thermo-promo one. Version V is the officially released one.

Version IV but really III

Version IV thermo-promo

I & II are also posted there, just do a search. Hope this helps

Thanks, vox,

my numbers refer to the recording Index of the Weißbuch
by D. Hoffmann, page 894.

According to that, there are 5 versions:

I is 4´56 long, available on several boots, rec. in Paris
II is 3´56, a different take to vers. I on CD "Back in the USA", rec. in LA
III is 3´49, another one from the LA session (like II) on CD The Harder They Come (IMP CD 001-002)
IV thermo promo version, 4´03
V official version

So I think that III is still not around here.

There is no version III on IMP-CD 001-002. Only the versions marked as I & II.
The only Version III I could find is available on IMP-N-001 "The harder they come 1978". But it is cut at about 0:36 min.

Thanks, I have the cut version, the Recording index says
"disc 2, rack 9" of The Harder They Come double CD.

Then you have to check it. Here is Track 9 of Disc 2 "The harder they come" as flac-file.

Ooh, the Weißbuch, been trying to find that for a while now, Hoffmann hasn't replied to my emails so I assume it's well & truly out of print.

I think the problem is the bootleggers giving the versions different numbers.
This is what I've got

I starts with a guitar riff on one side, by itself, another guitar & piano comes in & then the bass & drums.

II Starts with 2 guitars & vocals (boys go, saturday night, where the boys all go....) then the bass & drums come in.

III Starts with a drum roll & then everyone comes in, loudly.

The other so-called version III, of which there is only 33 seconds, starts with a count-in "3-4", sounds like Mick, & then they all start

Version 3 is 5'21 long ("Where The Boys All Go" version). It can be found on The Emotional Rescue Sessions LP.
