what would be best for scanning print fotos before I put them into Photobucket and then post them?
some options:
Jpeg
Tiff
PDF
other -- many more are given in my HP scanning software list
anything else I should know?

PDF is a document file, forget it.
TIFF are not so usual, forget it.
JPG and JPEG will be fine, they are so usual over the globe!

.jpg (or .jpeg) is the best option for the web.
the limits of the free accounts are for
images: 1mb each or 1024x768 resolution.
