Nasty question about the 1975 Tour...

At the San Antonio gigs the band was joined onstage by Harvey Mandel (June 3) and Wayne Perkins (June 4).
Was it just-for-fun on-stage jamming or (as I suspect) was Jagger hugely disappointed in Ron Wood performances at the Baton Rouge shows and flew in these 2 guys to rehearse them in a live setting and kick honest Ron out of the band?

I don't have to remind you that both Mandel & Perkins played on "Black & Blue" and therefore were potential replacements for Mick Taylor.

If you read Chet Flippo's book (Flippo witnessed the Baton Rouge rehearsals and the 2 subsequent shows) the atmosphere was TENSE and Jagger was particularly nervous about the musical direction the band was taking...

Opinions?

According to the interview Stu did for Creem magazine near the end of TOTA, it was in fact Jagger who wanted Woody on TOTA.

From Creem magazine: ...Eventually, Mick put his foot down and said, 'Right, it's either going to be Woody or no tour.'

By this quote it would to me seem rather odd if Jagger had changed his mind after just two gigs, eventhough they - imo - were sub par.

Some knowledgeable people says that the Mandel/Harvey guest appearance never happened. And I don't know what to believe, I gotta admit.
I have never seen any photos from the guest-appearances.....if there is any

<<Some knowledgeable people says that the Mandel/Harvey guest appearance never happened>>

Now you mentioned it Erik - yep seen that too. I think even an 'eyewitness' once reported here on iorr; there was no guest guitarist.

In any case, from where does this story of the guest appearances originate?

The report of at least one attendee on the 3rd is that Mandel did not play and TWFNO was not played, contrary to rumors:

They were taped. However - as I got it - money is not the issue.

EDIT: marko, click the link in Smokey's post for info on San Antonio '75

I've heard that Freezer taped at least one of the San Antonio '75 shows, maybe both, but he hasn't circulated it/them.
