POST Ready Steady Go/Live 1964-65, plus a tribute to my dad.

My dad was just 18, a cadet, in the Southern part of Poland, when war broke out. He made his way thru Rumania to France where he was wounded in the fighting there, & eventually got to Scotland with the rest of the Polish Army in Exile. After the war he filtered down to Bradford in Yorkshire where he met mum who had survived German workcamps, they settled down & by 1963 had 4 kids, living in Ealing on the west side of London.

We didn't have a record player but we did have a radio & for some strange reason a tape recorder on which we would tape family gatherings such as Xmas, etc. Imagine what my pre-war parents thought when yours truly decided the Stones were the best thing since sliced bread in 1963, things were a bit tense at times, they wouldn't let me see them but they begrudginly let me tape stuff off the radio & the TV. I used to put the microphone close to the speaker & the result was remarkebly good, the slight prob was that any noise in the room like the clinking of dinner plates, doors closing & my dad coughing, showed up on the tapes, but not too drastically.

Over time I outgrew my teenage rebelliousness & wound up here in Australia, the folks & my brother & sisters stayed in Canada, where we had moved to in 1966, so I don't get to see them anymore, but we communicate by phone, & email, dad in his retirement, got into computors & the net quite seriously & he had a wonderful time of it.

Dad passed away 2 weeks ago at the age of 86, he had long had heart problems but he was fighting fit to the end, the day before he went he was drinking cognac (Courvoisier).

It's all the memories that come flooding back, good & bad ones, including these tapes which I still have of the Stones, live (not playback), from Ready Steady Go 1964-65. Some of the trax have shown up on Vancouvers' post from the Crackin Up boot but I don't believe the others have ever shown up. I posted these ages ago but now's the time for a repost, my dad's ghost is on these tapes. You have to excuse the stops & starts, I was only 14/15 years old.

Thanks a lot, Vox12string, for tell us your memorable history, and of course thanks for posting. If your dad liked the Stones, he had to be a good man.

I presume these are the Ready Steady Go dates from Vox12string posts:

-Around and around - 20/11/64
-If you need me - 02/09/64
-What a shame, Time is on my side, Down the road apiece - 15/01/65
-Everybody/Paint, I´m alright, The last time - 09/04/65

If you think that something of this is not correct, please let me know.

But I don´t know when was played the post 06-Everybody needs... Can you help me, please?

I still have to listen to these tracks. The fact is that RSG was a TV program but Vox quotes that he taped to the radio. hence they should be Radio Shows.
Unless you can conifirm me that RSG was also broadcasted by radio (?)

@ straycat58:
"The fact is that RSG was a TV program but Vox quotes that he taped to the radio. hence they should be Radio Shows."

Vox says:
"they begrudginly let me tape stuff off the radio & the TV. I used to put the microphone close to the speaker"

Hello vox12string!

First let me express my condolence to you and your family.
Then I would like to thank you for uploading this stuff -
"Down the Road Apiece" is the best version I ever heard!
Thanks also for sharing your memories of the method these recording
were made; I remember trying to record the same way from TV -
German "Beat-Club" in my case, with far less satisfying results
than yours, but probably with similar "atmospheric disturbances"
within our family!
Hans-Jo
