Easy to write off Elvis right? He didn't write his own songs, he "stole" black music and he sucked after he came back from the army and became a fat slob.

This is where all the haters go: "RIGHT!"

Elvis gave so much more than people are aware of.

I'm a big fan of Elvis' mid-period pop (Are You Lonesome Tonight, It's Now Or Never, Little Sister, His Latest Flame), & his 50s stuff isn't bad either! I draw the line at the babygro years though.

This is my first OT thread (I think)...but I'm trying to get some more threads going on the Brian Jones era.

And I agree about The Boss!

I'd probably go for Led Zeppelin, U2 and Bob Dylan. But that's just me.

If I had to choose three, they'd have to be:

(1) The Beatles

(2) Led Zeppelin

(3) Frank Sinatra

(Other possible candidates in my opinion would include The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Clash, U2, The Smiths & Nirvana, but none of these receive praise way beyond their musical contributions as much as the above!).

Wow, I didn't know a human body can function with the brain missing.... is it kind of like being a jelly fish???

Here's the correct answer

LOVERBOY
KANSAS
STYX (tie for 3rd)
RUSH (tie for 3rd)
(Bonus Band) AKA Human Toilet Paper - KISS

BEST EFFING BANDS EVER !!!
Stones
Beatles
Doors
Led Zep
U2

Depends who's doing the 'rating'. Most people with any credibility or some degree of cognitive function know they're shite - the same applies to the inclusion in any 'over-rated' list to crap aimed at pre-pubescent girls. So, its hard to take seriously. More of a case of 'most over achieving' in those cases.

Some of the inclusions above by Stones fans - who you'd expect to have some degree of musical taste - are head-shakingly ludicrous.

Re: OT: Who are the three most over-rated artists / groups?

Rush?? Rush does not deserve to be mentioned on this thread.I'd take a compilation of their 30 best and stand it up against the 30 best of most other bands any time.

1. The Beatles. being a extinct band gives them an aura they don't deserve.
I think there is something emotional about them I don't understand, even though they wrote some great songs.

2. U2

3. The Doors

You'd expect that? I find them often quite blind. If a musician makes a joke about the stones then he is a loser, when he/she adores them, then he/she is great.

I like sleeping....,but now i´m getting older and as far as i know old people
don´t need to sleep that much.

Once again : An opinion is not a hate statement,as long as others are respected.

I respect everyone here,i love stones music as well (not as well, but almost)
i do like other groups/artists or music styles.

Maybe i´m too stupid or can´t read between the lines, but a controversial opinion
against "the common" one is often answered here with " hate statement..."

That´s not correct, getting sometimes little bit hysterical ( just a little bit...)

I too, think U2 are a little overrated. By that, I mean that they get a little more praise heaped on them than perhaps is warranted. Of course, it just my opinion.

Dylan is a tricky one for me. Now, I really enjoy some of his work and I think he is highly important and rightfuly admired figure on many, many levels. It is just that personally, I can't get worked up or fanatical about him, the way some can.

It is the same with Bowie. Both artists of whom I like the idea of been obsessive over, but for the life of me, cannot manage it. There is much to explore with the pair of them, but it just won't click into place.

jigsaw puzzle pieces must fit in for everybody else.
I dont demand anybody here should love Swedish band Kebnekajse
or artists Peps Persson, John Holm or even Timbuktu.

I'm pleeazed winking smileywinking smileywinking smiley ...

Well thats a different argument entirely, Harm.

Good musical taste is one thing. Someone who can appreciate the Stones' music gets credibility points based on that alone.

Blind adulation, penis envy and lack of common sense seem to require a different sort of thought process. Or lack of it.

The idea, as per the original post, that the 3 acts named havent 'contributed' much to the history of popular music when they've been directly responsible for influencing countless acts in their respective genre (youd be hard pushed to think of 3 artists as influential even if you dont care much for that artist's own style of music) is possibly the most nonsensical thing I've read here since one poster who shall remain nameless insisted ad nauseam that the Stones started out as a Beatles cover band, even after it was pointed out to him that the Fab Four hadnt even released their first record at the time the Stones were supposedly ripping them off.

Tomorrow I fully expect to be reading posts alleging that Muddy Waters ripped off the Rolling Stones.

I think they get way too much credit for doing what they do. That being said, it's needless to say that I'd pick U2 over any form of rap/hip-hop and the likes of Coldplay and other wannabes.

There's some songs that are great for sure. Mention the 10 most influential musicians since 1956, and Dylan is one of them surely. Being influential doesn't do it for me though. There's too much I don't want to listen to with him. Many, many other people do however, and that's the reason I think he's overrated. Because I can't see why he's supposedly so great.

I for one love David Bowie. When he's best he's as good as The Beatles and very close to The Stones. But again: That's just me.

Just had an ibuprofen for my headache, apart from that I'm fine, thanks.
honestly though, I'm not sayin he's a bad or even uncreative musician, BUT probably 9 out of 10 'younger' artists would say, 'bowie is one of my major influences, bla bla..'. and u wouldn't even hear that. also I think he's been over his peak since 1977.
