Slightly OT - Dr Sheela Basrur

Dr Sheela Basrur was the Chief Medical Officer of Health in Toronto in 2003 when we were dealing with the SARS crisis. She was widely acknowledged as being responsible for controlling the spread of SARS by her pro-active leadership, and she was the calm voice of reason during the hysteria. (The July 2003 Toronto Rocks concert, featuring the Stones, was massive and is well known to most.)

Dr Basrur was later appointed as the Chief Medical Officer for Ontario, a position she resigned in November 2006 when diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer.

Dr Basrur passed away yesterday at age 51, leaving her parents and a 17-year-old daughter. A major loss to Toronto and the medical community - heartfelt condolences to her family.

She sounds like a nice person.......and cancer sounds like a very, very bad disease. I'm sorry to hear this Toronto girl. Peace.
