Hi,

did anyone of you notice that the main riff of this song sounds like a combination of the satisfaction and jumpin' jack flash riffs... !?

Yeah and Neil Young was aware of this (see also "Borrowed Tune" from "Tonight's The Night") ).

Follow the link to an incredible two-minute career highlight film (now more than a decade out of date). Kicks off with "Mr. Soul."

Mr Soul was recorded in January 1967, sixteen months before the world first heard JJF. It IS pretty close to the Satisfaction riff, though. The alternate version of Mr Soul on the Buffalo Springfield box set is worth checking out. You can REALLY hear those amps crackle and buzz! Also contains a guitar solo that's much hotter than the one on the more familiar version.

Greenblues, 'Borrowed Tune' also sounds like Lady Jane. What's the line in it? "I'm singin' this borrowed tune, I stole from the Rolling Stones..."? You could sing "My sweet lady Jane, when I see you again..."

I once played in a band that did both 'Mr. Soul' and 'Satisfaction.' We toyed with the idea of doing them back to back, as in Mr. Soul --> Satisfaction, but it never seemed quite right.

I'm singin' this borrowed tune
I took from the Rolling Stones
Alone in this empty room
Too wasted to write my own

Yeah, I was referring to that Tate, just to make clear that Neil knew what he was doing at the time. I'm not sure right now if there's a quote from him about Mr. Soul being deliberately similar to Satisfaction. I reckon there is one, but I've just read a little bit to much about Neil recently, so I might confuse things...

Anyway, both are cool songs IMO. Must be a pleasure to cover them.

Also Far From Home from Praire Wind reminds No Expectations. It's only more upbeat.
