I'm thinking Jeff Beck.... pretty sure I saw him do it at the Chicago Theatre back in the 70's... possibly with Rod Stewart on vocals. I don't know... that was a long time ago and I've burnt plenty of brain cells since then!

I believe it was originally written by Don Nix. I looked it up the other day.
Jeff Beck and others had excellent versions.

i THINK its Freddy King, though im not 100%. Blues songs can be hard to trace, as several prominent artists often cover the same tune.

Freddy KING!
Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughn do a great version as well. Live on Stevie's box set.

This song put Freddy King on the map of other-than-hard-core blues fans. Don Nix was credited with penning the song.

It's a Don Nix number and was a standard cover for blues/boogies bands in the 70s. I saw Bad Company do it at as an encore at the Rainbow in 75 with Jimmy Page on lead and Duster Bennett on harp.

I think it was released by the band Moloch,
whose 1970 LP was written by Don Nix and also
features the great "Maverick Woman Blues", but
not "Down River".

Oops, "Down river" was a David Ackles song,
not Don Nix

Jeff Beck smokes that song but Keith's version from that Seville festival in '92 is pretty hardcore as well.

I could swear that I have seen a Mick Jagger version somewhere too. Was that one of the songs from the Mustique festival that was on a thread here with a link to Youtube some months ago?

I'm tired, I'm tired of doing what I'm told.
Things are moving way too slow.

are there any other songs (they didn't write) that mick & keith have each played separately.

Taylor played a smoking version of this song in late '86. Guitar-wise it's one of the best versions I've ever heard.
