Hmmm.. Nicky Hopkins did not make the Spinal Tap tour, but around the same time he made almost similar one by touring Finland with Andy McCoy (and old school Finnish blues man Dave Lindholm - they played as a trio, two guitars and a piano). That was a surreal tour, and I have always wondered how on earth McCoy managed to pick up the legend to do the odd tour (well, I asked that once from Dave Lindholm, but he didn't know either). Well, probably the article provides the most natural answer: Nicky could party like Bobby Keys... And that was what that tour all about. Nicky, by the way, described Andy in a Finnish interview "the most Keith Richards person he ever has met".
I saw the trio, and damn I just noticed that there is a footage from that very gig here in Tampere back in 1991. Nicky is also interviewed (a bits of a very rough-looking Keith by the same interviewer from 1988, too) - says, among other things, that his favourite gig is the Stones 1972 tour and he has good bootlegs of that (me too!)... Andy and Dave talk in Finnish.
