Biggest Mistake, Let Me Down Slow, She Saw Me Coming, Dangerous Beauty
Why they didn't try these live?! So good numbers!

a 'stand up and clap along' crowd pleaser in the context of
a live setting, but i personally, find the studio version,
with its appalling lyrics, trite and woefully below-par

i think they burned themselves out on this tour - it lasted way too long and drawn out -
they could have been already planning something else if it had finished sooner..

maybe the guys just wanted to get it wrapped up as a formallity when the last leg was started...not wanting to reherse any recent new stuff...

they realy deserve the rest now but if anything else follows - then many of these opinions need carefull thought by the Stones Camp..

>> Best ABB songs LIVE ? <<

Infamy, This Place Is Empty and Rain Fall Down were *beautiful* in concert.
It Won't Take Long would've shaped up nicely i'm sure if they'd dusted it off more than once.
the rest of your rankings are a lot like mine would be, if i indulged in rankings - but i don't :E
and yeah, She Saw Me Coming sure seems like a natural-born concert number -
maybe the next time :E

You didnt care for 'Back of My Hand'? I thought it was really good when played live (although I never saw it in person)

'Infamy' I dont care much for on record, but it was definitely better 'live'. 'This Place is empty' was good too.

'Rain Fall Down' took a while for them to really get into, but turned out really well (Houston' 05 and the UK '06 shows being especially good)

But in defense of Rough Justice; you don't get the singalongs.

Nikki bong,

you bonged the nail on the head

How that Rough Garbage stayed in the set is beyond belief.

Old Mac Jagger had a farm full of chickens, and, oh deary me, now some foxes are causing an awful lot of distress.

Neocon may not have made the set cause they didn't dare do it in the States.

But that one had potential to take on a life of its own live. Just the vibe.
And the chance of seeing Jagger on bass.

At least BtB had two new tour-defining songs Saint and OOC.

I think Neocon could have raised to that 'standard' - plenty of 'space' to explore and jam. And HARMONICA.

while I agree that the ABB songs live werent "Show-Stoppers" I think they were still good. I liked Rough Justice when I first heard it and on the radio. It was exciting to hear the new stones single, and I still think its good. I like it live, its "rough" sounding, like a garage band sound. I mean that in a good way. SOL is cheezy but a good song in the context of the rest of the concert. More abb songs would have been good like Let me down slow or Laugh..

Rough Justice has been a showstopper during this Euro Tour. It's been nothing short of fantastic and it's definitely been a highlight of every concert I've attended this summer (I've seen 10 of them). Since Keith took the first solo the song actually took off, really. It's a fantastic number, I love it!

ONNYA is quite strong too. When I heard it live it was on the B-stage and it didnt really blow me away, but after becoming familiar with the Austin Version, im impressed with it.

In which case, it shouldnt have been on the album to begin with. Not much point releasing it at all if youre going to be too chickenshit of offending someone by actually performing it.

They could have played it elsewhere though. Mercifully, we were spared it.

"Rain Fall Down" I think fell to the same fate as "Fingerprint File," where the band seems to lose patience or confidence with a funky number that isn't already a big hit (like "Miss You"). It didn't help that they really did mess it up during a live telecast (the American Music Awards?), but most versions I heard were quite good. It just seemed like mick was the only one trying, and then he would force it when it started to lose coherence. Too bad as it's clearly one of the best cuts on the album, if mainly a mick solo piece.

or did it start to lose coherence and Mick was forcing it??

it sounded mighty mighty fine when i heard it,
and all aboard sure seemed actively involved in making it sound that way.

Mercifully? Come on: it's not a bad tune. Pretty 'sweet,' if ya asked me. A delicious, minimal groove.

As for the lyrics - whilst I tend to agree with the sentiments - er, let's just say it's no 'With God On our Side.'

don't you love the mental image of the backup singers chanting "how come you're so wrong," though?

what I meant was that the basic sound was good, but the arrangement--what to do precisely when--had either not been worked out or not rehearsed well enough. so they would get into a groove but lose it when a change was supposed to come, or when part of the band thought a change was about to come, or some variation of that. basically the perils of a new song adrift among warhorses, and particularly a new song that needs to groove a while, which then threatens to turn into formlessness when the band is used to following rote cues.

Rough Justice, Oh Not Not You Again and Streets Of Love worked live on stage very, very, very well!

If they PLAYED them they'd get CONFIDENCE in them. It ain't hard to figure that one.

They blew it big time. (Mick was upset with sales of ABB? Duh - maybe you should PROMOTE the album Mick!)

To whittle the tour down to playing ONE song from ABB simply feeds into the critics who call them an oldies band.

And they are talking about another new album? Maybe they could call it "You won't hear it on tour"

They need an album to promote a tour.

A Rarities album would do nicely.

And back on the the Bigger Bang farm ..........

Why did they play SOL on tour in 2006, when it had been a single in 2005, (when they didn't play it) ........ and not play the 2006 single (in 2006 or 2007) Biggest Mistake.

Life is full of these little mysteries.

And Gazza - who would have thought, from listening to studio Rambler, that it could evolve into such a live classic.

I think Neocon would have worked. Atmospheric and lots of attitude, (whether you like it or not). Has dynamics..... space........etc.

I guess I just thank the guy upstairs everyday for giving me the opportunity to hear Back of My Hand performed live at the Hollywood Bowl (1st night only) in '05.

the last tour proved thats no longer the case. Likewise with No Security (a live album that barely charted and which was their worst seller either was hardly needed)

They'll have a new movie out next spring - that (if anything) will be the 'product'
