LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The theatrical release of Martin Scorsese's concert documentary about the Rolling Stones has been postponed by seven months to sometime next April, distributor Paramount Classics said on Thursday.

A spokeswoman said the Viacom Inc.-owned studio needed more time to set up the promotional campaign for "Shine A Light," noting that the band is busy touring Europe until August 26.

The film, whose title comes from an old Rolling Stones gospel song, was shot during two performances at New York's Beacon Theatre last fall, when guest performers included bluesman Buddy Guy, rocker Jack White of the White Stripes, and pop singer Christina Aguilera.

Scorsese, who often uses Rolling Stones compositions in his movies, was in Rome early last month to screen a rough cut of the film for the band. The documentary originally had been set to open in theaters on September 21.

The Rolling Stones recently released a four-disc DVD documenting various stops on the 2006 leg of their "Bigger Bang" world tour. Singer Mick Jagger is also preparing for the October release of an album compiling tracks from his various solo endeavors.

if this is indeed true, I cant believe they mix Beacon footage with 02 footage, would not make sense. probably they start the film from scratch, use only 02 footage and change the movie title from "Shine A Light" to "Grande Finale"!!!

Does that mean that, for continuity purposes, they'll be moving the Fan Asylum people out of the front rows and bringing back the models?

one can only hope and pray, gazza. for my money (remember, it was free) i thought the models upstaged the stones themselves on that fabulous night at the beacon...

just think they can sell more of the biggest bang dvd by delaying the
shine a light movie,i would wait as we too much on the stones at the moment.

Oh there was a snippet somewhere here or one of the
other Stones sites that Scorsese was rumoured to
be going to shoot extra/bonus footage at the 02 shows for Shine a Light....

Maybe maybe not...who knows.............BUT gonna comb me hair just in case

Has anyone heard anything about that other movie? The cartoon movie Ruby Tuesday that was supposed to come out early next year? I haven't heard anything about it lately.

It gets worse, the older that you get. No escape from the state of confusion I'm in.

If they delay the film (pity as I was really looking forward to it) it would be fine with me if they use the extra time to film more shows. So they could bring in some more "new" songs. Otherwise in 08 it could be kind of dated already.

Dated by 08'? lol. Don't think it will be dated that fast.

I think that the 02 dates should also be filmed for sure. This our has been great and it would be a welcome add to have one of those concerts as an official release.
