PARIS - where to have a beer / meet etc
Posted by: petethestone ()

Looking forward to Paris after last nights performance. A few of us are off to Paris next week for the first time. Are there areas to congregate around the Stade de France or to people hang around in the city beforehand. Just want to make the most of the atmosphere and be in the right place! We have taken the forums advice and booked a hotel away from thr St Denis area. Any advise / tips appreciated.
Bring it on!!!

There's a meeting point in a pub on the 15th, and after the show, on the 16th.
All you need to know about the pub's name (LE SOUS BOCK) and its location is in the link given previously.

If you're wondering about how to travel in Paris around the Stade de France, you can ask here !

Well the Some Girls bar in Rue de Lappe 11, near Bastille metro,
has been mentioned a few times - but also that it's supposed to be a small bar.

Too small? I can't tell, never been there, but maybe a good idea to have it on the list as it's not too far from Le sous Bock.

Open-g, do you know the closest metro stops for both bars? I'm trying to get as many directions on papers as possible before I leave - Don't speak the language so I could be in for a rough night if I get lost.
If anyone could post this info it would be really helpful. Thanks

For Some Girls the station name is "Bastille", the yellow line #1 and line #8 (sort of purple) .

For Le Sous Bock the station is "Chatelet Les Halles"
blue, green and red line - can't make out the numbers.

Soem Girls is small and it is on a small street. Get there early because it's a gas, gas, gas.

For Station SDF to Station Chatelet-les halles, it's direct with the RER "D"
And to go to the some girls there is a change in Chatelet :

Not to worry Funki-Fi.

English is widely spoken in Paris, and people are generally very helpful about giving directions.

When you have your addresses in order go to Google maps and put each address in the search box. You can print out a very useful little map for anything you're not sure about. I assure you after this trip you will need those little maps because you'll want to return!

I am turning up at 6PMish Friday at Le Sous Bock, a funky little bar where you will meet really nice Stones fans. You can ask everybody anything you want to.

I would get this little map booklet I've had for years "PARIS par Arrondissement (Plans de la Proche Banlieue)" an Arrondissement is a DISTRICT and Paris is made up of 20 of them - it's the last 2 numbers on the zip/postal code. EVERYTHING depends on what district something is in. For example, SOME GIRLS BAR sounds like it's in the 11th. This little pocket sized booklet may cost you a few Euro's but it's well worth it, it will break down the city into very easy to understand "Ditricts" - go for it... Don't worry about the english - if you smile and act very polite almost all Parisians will help you. They are VERY into manners - that's what a lot of tourists don't get - ALWAYS greet strangers first in French, "Bon Jour" - good day - before you ask anything.... you can say "Pardon"(Par - Done - like Bone with a "D") first. It's just proper manners to them and if you don't do it they'll think you're being rude - when in Rome......

You said it FIRST Bongster (but you DO have a point - I can only take so many vespa's before the Nam flash backs start up - lol. Even though I was too young for "NAM" I still get the simpatico flash backs.... Weird City)

BONGSTER, are you in Europe right now?

I need a place to meet in Central Paris near the main street you know where I mean. Near the Arch etc. Please post suggestions here or send e-mail to me at iorr@arena.no. Also suggestions for Lyon would be great.

PS. Barcelona is taken care of.

Avenue des Champs-Elysées is the street & L'Arc du la Triomphe is the Arch, right?

McDonalds has a pretty centrally situated restaurant pretty close to the
Arc, if I'm not too far-out here... Might be a landmark??

I'd suggest Virgin Megastore midway up the Champs Elysees on the right side.
Beautiful building with some loitering/meeting space around it. Easy to find.

The two most used places to meet here in Paris are:

The Opera Garnier
The St. Michale's Fountain (with direct line to Stade de France)

Plenty of places to have a beer around them.

As Bv is drummin together folks from all over
I still think McDonald's is the most logical & rational idea.

But of course it's all up to Bv.
Alas I wont be there; just struck me, the McD is close to the Arc.

When I was thinking meeting place I missed the part about beer!

Leteyer is right. Plenty of places for a beer or whatever around St. Michael's Fountain area. So convenient re the RER.
