Hmmm ... Fact 3 ??? OK then, I'll bring a tent, even though all I'm gonna do with the bastard thing is set fire to it. Suppose I can always toast the marshmallows over the smouldering ashes !

Maybe our "boys" are happy to don't have all us old stones-fan farts there..in their audience. Not the same faces in front row. Some young blood there. Maybe some young fans for the next couple of tours....

LOL

Drove past the site only yesterday! Such a peacefull place its hard to believe so many people were there! A large group of trees sit exactly where the main stage was in 1970.

Thanks for the website full of good info and some great pictures.

I have a boat so I may take it down to the solant and go over on the off chance, I would sleep on it, does anyone know how far inland the festival is from the nearest port? And most importantly, do you think I'd get a ticket outside if I just turned up on the Sunday?

Re: Rolling Stones Headline Isle Of Wight Festival

Its about 5mins from medina quay, go down river medina and carry on right into newport. There's been tickets beforehand at every festival since 2002 and often for cheaper than normal price but it could all change with the stones being there.

Saying that if you try on the Sunday the touts will be trying to cut their loses by letting them go for what ever people can afford. Its worth a go and if you dont get a ticket sit the other side of the river and listen and kinda watch like many others .

close enough...but really, how long do you think they'll play at this festival? most bands i see at festivals don't play more than an hour...

Just checked out my cd from when 'The Who' headlined the Saturday night at the IOW in 2004 and they played for over two hours.

I would expect the stones to play for the best part of a couple of hours.

Yeah but a Who show tends to be a bit over two hours anyway. The Stones usually clock in about 5-10 minutes short of two hours.

Inspite of having been there, I have no recollection of how long they played for at Knebworth in 1976. I additionally have no recollection of a lot of other things from that period of time, so for those of you with a slightly better memory than I ... anyone recall how long they played for ?

F*ckin'ages ..till about 2am if my creaky memory serves. I was only 16 at the time but to this day, I've never been so knackered in my life as I was after kipping on Stevenage railway station that night.

I already got my IOW festival been there, done that, got the T-shirt bit 27 years ago but I had no tent then - and no hotel either. Just open skies (and ditto at Glastonbury). Tents weren't for me then and they ain't for me now (unless under African skies).

Indeed, that does ring a bell. They came on late, and I also seem to recall now that they had dreadful sound problems at the beginning. The first song I heard properly with good sound was Fool to Cry. As for where I slept that night ... I genuinely can't remember. I do remember the friends I was with, but where we slept and and how & when we got home ... er ?

Why don't all you tent haters club together and hire out a luxury yacht and moor it off of the IOW for the weekend and then sleep in it. Hey, ya great party but be sure to invite me!

Nah ... wouldn't work. All that melted nylon all over those nice teak decks. Besides, just think of the fire risk ? One moment you're rockin' n' rollin' on the ocean waves, and the next it's ABANDON SHIP ... cos' some bastard has set a tent on fire !

Two and a half hours. Their longest show (at that time) and, to date, the most songs theyve ever played at any show (30, if ya count the brief 'Country Honk')

You absolute hero you, thanks for reminding me. You haven't got the setlist on record by any chance ? Songs I definitely recall are:

Fool to Cry
Star Star
Wild Horses
Little Red Rooster

F*** ... that's about it !

Paulywaul, your obsession with setting fire to tents is a little alarming...

You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter..... aho aho aho aho.....!

Say, you're a good man to have around when you get overcome by the desire to rid the world of a tent or two. A liberal teaspoonful of JD - of which there always seems to be a copious quantity around whenever you're in the vicinity - strike a match ... VOILA !! Ten minutes later, one incinerated tent. You comin' to the IOW Mr Jimmy ?

I'd love to be there, but I don't have a ticket...

By the way, Jack Daniels is for drinking only! Such a waste to use it as fuel for your psychotic arsonist rituals!

Mind you, I hate tents as well. Burn baby burn, nylon inferno....!

Mr Jimmy ... REALLY !!

Do NOT let the trifling matter of not having a ticket at this particular moment in time prevent you from attending the Isle of Wight. Tickets can ALWAYS be obtained. Out of mere idle interest I looked on e-bay yeterday I think it was, there's at least 50 or so different ads, either for single tickets, pairs of tickets, all three days, only the weekend, camping, non camping - every bloody variety basically. And as someone else pointed out, there will always likely be people selling them there on the IOW itself come the time. Nah ... if they confirm it in this press con on Thursday, you should give it a thought.
