Yeah I forgot about some great bands in my own backyard. I came to like the Grateful Dead much later in life. Also CCR in general and John Fogerty specifically. A couple more:
Lynyrd Skynyrd Blue Oyster Cult Fleetwood Mac Metallica
"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"

Next time instead of "not looking" you should look and you might get educated a little. Plenty of blues bands in my postabove yours.
Yeah I see what you did, you just made an ass out of yourself.
Lynyrd Skynyrd Allman Brothers Band Grateful Dead The Band (ok so they were Canadian but they had one American...Levon Helm...plus their music was pure Americana) Bob Segar and the Silver Bullet Band
I assume we're talking about rock bands here because if I include country bands, its' gonna be a long list....
I've got to add the Stooges and Patti Smith Group here, they're so ancient I forgot they're still active (even tho I saw Patti's gig only two years ago) until I read some of the posts. Someone mentioned the Blues heritage, and I think these two punk-originators are equally important in mutating the Blues into something new, a fact that just isn't appreciated, or even quite clear yet. For pure American rocking fun, the new New York Dolls are excellent, even if their bassist is Finnish and Sylvain is from the Middle East.

Every Band album is great...Rock Of Ages is the 2nd best live album of all time (tied with Waiting For Columbus)...try it
Oh yeah, Little Feat must be considered as a GREAT American band

Nick their is no "r" in ass in the USA. I was responding to your rudeness considering you F-bombed everyone. But no offense taken for passion. I can see where your coming from, just that your post comes off a somewhat harsh. Anyways no big deal rock on dude.

Nice one mate. See you hopefully on the road this summer.
Oh thier ain't nothing underrated about the Heartbreakers. I mentioned them on one of many posts on this thread. In fact I have been listening the Tom Petty box set all week. Here's a line from an obscure Petty song that I've worn out the last few days.:
" Wherever you are tonight,I wish you the best of everything,in the world and I hope you find, whatever you were looking for"
"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"
Iggy and the Stooges CCR The Black Crowes The Black Keys The Raconteurs The Doors DYLAN The Greatful Dead Allman Bro's Black Rebel Motocycle Club The Blind Boys of Alabama Stevie Ray Vaughn Jimi Hendrix The James Gang J Giles (pre Love Stinks!) Aerosmith (Pre Done with Mirrors) Chuck Berry Little Richard James Brown Janis Joplin with Full Tilt Boogie Band Howling Wolf (his band was on fire) Elvis (pre Army) White Stripes John Lee Hooker with Canned Heat!

charmed, I really don't think they get their due when compared to, say, the E Street Band. Mike, Belmont, etc. have a great versitility as well as gobs of talent. I know I'm preaching to the choir with you, but some out there don't know.
Yeah your right Elmo. I don't know what the numbers are. But I'm sure Petty's sales figures can hold their own with many a big name artist. His last album was pretty good. At least he finally got a couple songs played on FM radio for the first time in years. I unfortunatly did not catch last summer's tour. But he managed to sell out 3 nights at a 20,000 seat local ampitheatre. So it look's like he's "back". I hope he comes back around again this summer.

ohno sent me a boot of TP at Bonnaroo - good setlist and show. Saw him a few years back and he was excellent. Mike Campbell had a fall near the end of the show and played the encore (American Girl) sitting down!
