They've gone through some dodgy patches but have made some raelly good music too.

No.

i think before the steel wheels tour...reporters were asking mick about "opening acts" and the reporter asked about aerosmith. mick's response was something along the lines of.....why would we have such a similar act (to us) open for us.

steven tyler loves the stones....used to win mick jagger look-a-like contests when he was a kid...because of the lips. (i think i saw that on Behind The Music)

i'm a fan of both bands.

A few years ago I was having drinks at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago. Low and behold, on the sofa and in some chairs next to where I was sitting was Aerosmith (minus Joe Perry).

I have seen the Stones up close and personal and they are quite charismatic off-stage (as well as on). Aerosmith had about as much charisma as my toothbrush.

I had heard a rumor at the onset of ABB tour that Aerosmith was interested in opening for the Stones . I was at the second show at Fenway Park and saw Steven Tyler down by the Red Sox Dugout . I really thought they might appear with them when they returned to Boston in January 2006

Nothing against them personally, and some of their records that I've heard are good enough, but I've always seen them as "Stones Lite"

They are not just Stones lite - they had their Bon Jovi/Journey lite period too

After the first Frankfurt '76 show Keith said something like, "We're not interested in white bands who rip off white bands who rip off black musicians."

As in Aerosmith = Stones = Blues

Some of you are Tough LOL....I love Both Bands; of you are not a fan, that doesnt mean you have to rip them...

By that yardstick, neither act is anywhere near as great as Garth Brooks.

This is turning into a Stones vs. Aerosmith or Aerosmith-bashing thread. I can't understand why Stones fans are so against Aerosmith, and why everyone think they are the "Stones lite", when they sound much more like Led Zep, the Yardbirds, and '70s riff rock than the Stones.

I dont think it is. Most of the replies answered the question, mentioned what a public perception of them is or at least acknowledged that Aerosmith were good or OK.

The most negative quote about Aerosmith in this entire thread comes from Keith Richards, who is probably the guy most entitled to turn it into a "Stones v Aerosmith" thing, after all!

Everybody has there opinion of course, and there is nothing wrong with that, BUT I think it's fair to say that Aerosmith is a great band who made great records who sold well and is a "old" band who is still great on record (honking on Bobo is awesome) and on stage!!!!

Britney Spears performed with A'smith at the Super Bowl, she also attempted "Satisfaction".

i love them too and saw them a few times general admission in the late 80s (trying to fill the void of the stones, maybe)...

my favorite was at the cow palace in san francisco - someone was throwing something at the stage and steven tyler was getting pissed off - he moved the mic away from his mouth, pointed at the guy and said "i'm going to get you motherfvcker!"

Anybody ever heard a song by Aerosmith called Seasons of Wither. Killer tune. imo

I can imagine that to be true. What you have to remember about Aerosmith is that, not only were they wild in the 70's, but they paid the price for it. Tyler and Perry served out the early 80s as penniless junkies. They lost everything. If you read "walk this way" you will know that they were living hand to mouth in seedy hotels. Keith Richards may have had his problems but he never lost his wealth. He's been a rich man since his twenties.
My point is that Aerosmith now take their sobriety seriously - and who can blame them. I dont find them boring at all in interviews, but I realize they aren't slurring great one liners a la Keef ("I looked at the ol' lady and said I'll see you in seven years babe"). Aerosmith climbed back up the greasy pole - and they did it with all the original guys. I find that totally inspirational.
God forbid, but if I ever lose my job or my house or my wife....I will take faith in the fact that Aerosmith lost all that (and more) and came back stronger. As for the music - I would refer you to my earlier post. Tho I can't believe I didnt mention Draw the Line.
