She Was Hot (at least the backup singers were!)
Date: November 11, 2006 00:05

Just listened to She Was Hot from Oakland; I LOVE the song, and for the most part think it sounded great. (I know, it hurts some of us to admit, but Chuck does a great job.)

However, there was one distressing element: at the orgasm of the song - that moment when Mick lets loose and hits the high notes on "DOWN THE AVENUE, INTO THE LOST BAYOU!" etc. etc. (what a great moment, eh?) in Oakland, well, he didn't let loose and hit the high notes. But what is most troubling is that the backup singers did! Bernard (bernard!) is actually saving the song at this moment . . .a truly sad state of affairs.

Rest up Mick (why not just shut up for once?) and hit those high notes at Dodger stadium - i'll be there screaming along!

you can't catch me!

er yes, acually. bernard always seemed like a "do you want fries with that?" kinda guy . . .

moreover, i disagree. they're supposed to provide harmonies and play ineffectual tambourine bits . . . they're not supposed to dominate the vocals.

This is what bothered me about the Beacon 2 show. Same thing happened with she was HOT, HOT, Hot and on Shattered when the voice goes up. People are saying that the show was the best they have ever seen but I did not think they were 100%. I have seen them do better versions of many of the same songs at other shows or on other tours.

What the deal? Note-wise, Bernard's been doing this for mick for years!
Check out Rocks Off since 1994 'what the matter with ya boy', Tumbling Dice since 1989 'you gotta roll me', Almost Hear You Sigh 'did it mean nothin'...', etc, etc, etc ...

Now the 'domination' you speak of, that's a sound crew mixing issue, not a permormer issue.
