DUH! Bowie wanted to play him in a film in the early 70s, and went as far as dressing up in 50s style suits (the genesis of his Dioamond Dogs tour/Young Americans look), but Frank said he didn't want "a limey faggot" playing him, so Bowie quickly went off Frank. Ferry is steeped in classic crooner mythos. Nick Cave isn't a Sinatra fan per se, but he wears suits on stage and smokes like a bastard. But don't you think this sort of undoes the whole point of this thread right here, because Keith clearly isn't Sinatra's successor after all, because there are other potential contenders for the crown.

Hell yeah! She was the great love of his life, probably because she never put up with his shit. I think it was John Huston who asked her how she could stay with that "120 pound wimp", and she replied "he may be a 120 pound wimp, but he's 140 pounds of cock".

Frank never got over her and tried to get back together with her periodically until she died. When he recorded "In The Wee Small Hours" he had a lifesize photograph of her in the studio right in front of him. He also paid all her medical bills when she was on her way out.

Then you'll love Sinatra - The Life by Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan. Usual mob stuff, but a hell of a lot more. Oh, and read Dino by Nick Tosches too. That's a tragi-comic book. And Rat Pack Confidential is an absolutely CRACKING read.

And she was hot - as she kissed my mouth
She was hot - as I wiped her brow
She was hot - she pinned me to the ground
She was quick - she knew her way around
She was hot - as she tore my clothes
She was hot - she had no place to go
She was hot - on a cold and rainy night

That's a great story, but it actually happened with John Ford during the shooting of the movie Mogambo, in Africa.

"Frank Sinata, whose marriage to Gardner was in the process of unraveling, spent some time on the location. Ford set Sinatra to work cooking spaghetti dinners. Introducing Garner to the British governor and his wife, Ford said maliciously, 'Ava, why don't you tell the governor what you see in this one-hundred-twenty-pound runt you're married to.'

'Well,' replied Gardner, 'there's only ten pounds of Frank but there's a hundred pounds of cock!'

Ford blanched and said, 'I'll never talk to that girl again.' But the British couple found Gardner's remarks hilarious."

From "Searching for John Ford--A Life" by Joseph McBride
