no..it specifically states in the rules that it doesnt include anything such as accommodation, transport, etc. Its for a pair of tickets, nothing more. A bit unrealistic to expect them to pay transport for a couple of thousand contest winners as well!
PRIZES: * Winners will receive one (1) pair of tickets to see the Rolling Stones at the Beacon Theatre on October 29th or October 31st, 2006. Winner is responsible for, and must be able to provide and/or obtain transportation.

Paradiso 1995: It helped a lot to be at the right place in Amsterdam when tickets were sold.
Olympia 1995: It helped a lot to be outside Virgin Megastore in Paris, where tickets were sold
Brixton 1995: It helped a lot to be in London and Virgin Megastire again.
Shepherds Bush 1999: Same with London Tower Records
Licks tour: Club shows were sold on internet but it helped a lot to be outside the venues, where they sold 100 +/- tickets at every show except for Roseland NYC. Many fans without tickets got their tickets just by being there, not giving up. Always a 2nd chance.
Phoenix 2005: It helped a lot to be in Toronto to get this ticket. They even let in people without tickets during the show.
Conclusion: If you are in NYC now, permanently, living there, or on show day or the night before, then it is easier to get into Beacon. That is for sure.

in which case by that logic, if thousands of us enter, who cannot realistically go (as is probably the case), then the chances of people getting tickets who can go (i.e New Yorkers) is getting slimmer by the minute....
hell- the venue may be empty, if loads of Europeans etc, win tickets!
(assuming you believe in the "lottery" story, of course.)
I am dissapointed because I did buy tickets to two concerts on this tour but I bought them from strangers at the venue so I have no credit card details of the purchase. I wouldn't say I scalped them because I stay away from poeple trying to sell tickets for a profrit. Rather, i try to purchase from fans who may have an extra. Here in Florida events rarely sell out & you can usually get better cheaper seats that way. I paid $60 for a $400 floor seat in Miami. If money wasn't an issue ..I am not sure I would still shell out $400 for a seat on the floor 3/4 of the way back from the stage.
I used my old password on RS.com and entered the contest ..but did not get asked the question of which night or why I should be chosen?!
Anyway, good luck to all & hope to see ya inside the Beacon!

those shows, like Brixton, were 1995, not 2005 - but your point and observations are correct
However mine was that they didnt have a fan club back then with a membership fee (that didnt come in until 2002) and there werent separate arrangements for fan club members like there has been on these shows for later tours.
The Phoenix club is a bit of a different scenario because those warm up club dates have always took place at VERY short notice in the city where theyve rehearsed and ticket distribution has never been the responsibility of either the fan club or Ticketmaster.

Oeos, sorry Gazza! I didn't even bother to read it properly

Sure. My brain was messed up but I corrected it now of course.
My point is that even after the tickets have been sold, after all the dust have settled, just by being there, never giving up, there is always hope. Many people have scored tickets on the door. That is what I am trying to say. Not millions. Not even thousands. May be a few hundred. But for those who made it that was important of course.
I didn't get my e mails til 1 and 2 am. Everybody else got theirs hours earlier. Why so late?
Given BV's comments, I think I will just go to NY and see what I can get. But then again, as Gazza pointed out to me, NY and London were the only 2 theater/club shows on the Licks tour where they DID NOT sell any tickets at the door.
Also BV, at the Wiltern, I think they only sold maybe 25 tickets, not a hundred.

Now Gazza my good man ....... please ! Naturally I'm all too aware that I'll be in NY over this period of time, but that aside - the point I was actually endeavouring to make is that outside of the lateness of the hour in putting all this together, the basic concept with respect to the marketing of these tickets appears to be a good one. It's pretty much the best they were ever really likely to be able to come up with. There never has been, nor will be, a ticket marketing strategy for over-subscribed events that's going to be just and fair and absolutely ideal for all folks everywhere and covering the entire spectrum of peoples' individual circumstances. Given that, what they've come up with ain't that bad, just a little late - that's all !!

LOGIE you absolute hero you, thank ya kindly (finest MJ accent there you'll note please !!). I take back everything I've ever said about you, I meant absolutely none of it ....... !! If Beast and I have got any palm trees left over after we've distributed them among the Clintons, the Rolling Stones, British Airways, the cantankerous git that'll no doubt be waiting for me at NY immigration on Thursday next week ........ we'll wrap 'em up an' send 'em up to ya !!
In the US there are strict laws for contests and prizes. Specifically, if money is required to redeem the prize, it must be prominently disclosed. I don't read any requirement for payment in the terms and conditions on rs.com, so the tickets in this contest have to be free.
I find it hard to believe that they are giving away 3,000+ tickets aways for free, especially considering the press coverage that tickets would be $35 or $50. I don't that think they would give more than a few hundred tickets away, if even that. Which would mean a general or fan club sale is still probably in the works.

Adrian-L you superstar, thank YA kindly too (finest MJ accent there again). It's Christmas, 'ave a palm tree !!
Changing the subject totally, went to see Little Britain Live at the Hammy Apollo yesterday. If you're into it and haven't seen it as yet, then don't miss it. It's really really good. And it's worth looking for tickets on Ticketmaster, you shouldn't need to sift through the hordes of the sodding things on E-bay. I bought yesterday's pair in the front row of the stalls would you believe just last week, basically a mere 8 days before the show ? God knows how or why, but they just came up on TM !

This goes some way towards answering the question I put to Bjornulf and to which he hasn't as yet replied. I was trying to get my head around whether the tickets that will be made available to people through this contest will actually account for ALL of those for the two shows combined, or only a PROPORTION of them. Based on the point you make, it would appear that it might be a proportion only, and that an actual "sale" is still indeed possibly in the works. Because you're absolutely correct, there is no mention whatsoever of "payment" per se anywhere in those contest "terms & conditions", so the only conclusion must be is that they are in effect "free" tickets. Who knows, it's all conjecture ?
