About @#$%& time. However, whilst The Departed was a good movie, he's made about ten that were better.

I loved that Scorsese had Coppola, Lucas and Spielberg out there giving him the award. I fought to stay awake to see it live. Then Nicholosn gave him a kiss off the side of stage too. Even Clint Eastwood looked relieved that Scorsese won LOL.I think the win for Best Film was a bonus and almost a surprise for Michael and the producers.
Seemes like the only surprise of the night was Alan Arkin beating Eddie Murphy. Well deservedly so. Arkin was fabulous.
I thought the surprise star of the show was Al Gore though. he was up on stage or on camera more than anyone. When Ellen made that crack about "people voted for you and ..." that was classic.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

Trainarollin, I enjoyed The Departed but I also had a little trouble sorting out the details. Whatever happened to white cowboy hats and black cowboy hats? The Departed wasn't a Western, but some visual clues to the characters' true nature would have been welcome. Before long, I just told myself that they were all bad guys and I just settled in to enjoy the bloodshed.

Someone posted that there was a shot with An Exile on Main Street CD, and if that's true, I missed it. So I'll have to see it again.

I haven't seen Happy Feet. Are there bad penguins and good penguins in it? God knows it will be hard enough telling those characters apart.

its in the scene where the girl gets a Cd sent to her in the mail. when she opens it and is about to play it, you can see that its been 'disguised' inside an Exile cover.

To me, Leonardo, Damon and Marky Mark look too much alike. That threw me off..not to stereotype that all white people look alike, they do when they all have the same haircut.

The Japanese version (I saw it on television a half a year ago) wasn't bad as well.
So, a Stones movie won, now announce the tour! :-)

That's an Oscar tradition. Remember when Al Pacino won for Scent of a Woman?

OK, someone had to be the first, so here you go: I find Scorsese 'slighly' overrated. But I havn't seen departed yet.

Casino is maybe his only movie that I truly liked from a to z (but probably this has much to do with the fact that a fantastic sharon stone was starring and it had a 'good' soundtrack ...).

Goodfellas was good too, but nothing new in the "mafia" department.

Raging bull b&w was a true masterpiece, but it dragged too long.

Aviator and Gangs are pointless movies for a director of that stature.

The Departed is almost the EXACT same movie as Mou gaan dou (Infernal Affairs), a famous award winning movie in Hong Kong. The same EXACT jokes, EXACT scenes, and EXACT story line were used in Martin Scorsese's version. If you look at the the screenplay for The Departed it is the same guy as the one used for "Infernal Affairs."

Funny thing no one has mentioned The Last Waltz. A true masterpiece in my opinion.

Disagree on that. Don't like this kind of talk. Sorry to see it.

I am sorry you disagree but its the truth, I love Oscars, but its the real truth, they always try to make happy everyone in each Show, its a pitty as amazing and real movies and director have made it! hundred of examples.
And Jewish Corp, control Hollywood, nothing bad or second meaning Loog droog.
Last Waltz, in my opinion is not a master piece, great documentary, changed the view to see Documentaries.
Babel should win more, remember 21 grams as well, in my opinion movies too raw and real for the academy.

It's true that Marty has made better movies than The Departed. Goodfellas, Casino and The Aviator are all better. The Departed is in the category right under along with Gangs Of New York, Raging Bull and Mean Streets. I never liked Taxi Driver. I thought it was boring and I'm probably the only one who thinks that too.

Don't forget to add sports talk, newspaper writers, book authors, talk radio, seems like everywhere the written or spoken word is publicized, is there a pattern here?

I didn't think The Departed was his best but a lot of times these awards are given as a cumulative thing. When someone has been overlooked/snubbed for years the voters eventually try to compensate and award them. The Stones won their grammy for Voodoo Lounge, an album that I like but not on the level of Sticky, Exile etc..

I wouldn't call Scorcese overrated. He has a resume to die for and is just now being recognized. If anything he is underrated.

But I do think Taxi Driver is overrated. It would have been a much better movie if the guy got close to the edge and was able to regain his sanity instead of some guy that just keeps getting nuttier and nuttier.

>> nothing wrong to admit it. <<

carlitosbaez, i hope i can try to explain: no one's ethnic background or religious beliefs
are relevant to this discussion, or to the way the Oscars work. you could have said
"the Hollywood machine had to prize him" and "corporations control Hollywood" -
(at least i'm guessing you mean corporations). adding an adjective generalizing about ethnicity/religion
isn't necessary - it doesn't make your sentences more meaningful - so it sounds inappropriate,
like you're bringing it up to make some kind of weird point that would be real offensive to a lot of people.
until further notice, i believe that's not what you meant, so i hope you can take this as a helpful sociolinguistic hint.

Was so pleased for Scorsese that he finally won the Oscar, and also for best picture. I am intrigued how someone can say on this thread that his last few movies have been 'very bad'. Thats crazy talk. Scorsese suffers the same problem that the Stones do, but to a lesser degree. Goodfellas is his 'Exile on Main Street'. People will always compare.

I really enjoyed the Departed, one of the best movies of the last few years. It does help to watch it two or three times.

Last night I saw the new De Niro movie 'The Good Shepherd'. Very very good, very long, and also a little confusing after just one viewing. You pretty much understand it, but you're lefting wandering about certain characters and how many double/triple - crossings occured!

REALLY

come on.

he has made better moveis, but not ten that were better.

I think the Departed ranks with his best stuff

Better movies he done are Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver

IMO those are the only films he has done that are BETTER than the Departed

I like Mean Streets, Cape Fear, After Hours, Casino ect ect and his music stuff (Band, Dylan, hi hopes for the upcomming Stones) but none better than Departed

I enjoy most all of his work, but Departed really was the best time I had at the movies last year and I think it is worthy.

Hollywood reporter quotes Scorsese's people on that he hasn't been able to campaign for The Departed, because he's working night and day on the Stones-dicumentary... I love the fact that he's listening to his heart. He clearly loves them. It's a favourite project of his, and since the Cannes Film Festival is the most prestigeous in the world - he's working his butt of to have it ready for Cannes, eiter the Palme d'Or competition - or the Director's class.

There is no need to put a religious/ethnic label on your statement. It doesn't mean anything but a negative vibe. It has nothing to do with your statement that big business controls Hollywood.

Ur, that's because it's a remake. And guess what? They're already talking about a remake of the prequel and sequel (Infernal Affairs 2 and 3).

What I meant was corporations control Hollywood, didnt want to say nothing about religion or whatever, I love artists but didnt like their system, apologies for my statement I didnt want to mean that.
Happy for Scorcese and happy because Gimme Shelter is in it.
