If you listen to Steel Wheels/Dirty Work/Wandering Spirit and Voodoo Lounge (and the albums later) you can easily hear the difference of Mick's singing. Before Voodoo he actually is screaming a lot, which I find a bit ugly. But since Voodoo he started really to sing.. he learned how to use his voice (he should, because of his age!) So nowadays he is really using singing technics, so to that means he is a professional.

Muddyw, I totally agree with you, Mick`s singing seems much more musical now than it used to, I am not so impressed by the 81/82 singing, the playing was fantastic then though, he sings better than in 1976, and Laugh I nearly died on ABB, Out of Control and many more are examples of amazing rocksinging.
