Rock and a Hard Place

Does anybody like this song on Steel Wheels? You never hear much about it but IMO it's one of their best rockers, just as good as Start Me Up. I've been listening to Steel Wheels recently and there's so many great songs you never hear much about, Almost Hear You Sigh, Slipping Away, Terrifying, Mixed Emotions. Sad how these great songs get ignored. Should Rock and a Hard Place be considered a classic like SMU?

I think it's really awful. Even when it was released it sounded dated. It belongs in the cocktail bars of the mid-eighties.

Don't care much for this one either. I thought it was allright when I heard in 89. And it stayed good for 2-3 years or so. Then it was over.
Mixed Emotions is much much better.

I like it, But then again I like over 90% of their stuff. Enjoy it periodically. I agree think Mixed Emotions much better of the two. MEZ

Yeah, it does have a very 80's sound...but I still love it. Oh well, guess I'm the only one!

I used to like it but when I listen to it now it sounds like they tried to do their own version of Rockin' in the Free World... and they failed.

It is very eigthees. All the rockers on Steel Wheels are, sound dated, I prefer the two wonderful ballads from the album plus maybe Continental Drift, my relationship to the rockers is reserved. And lyricswise, they (or simply Mick in this case) wrote better political songs than this one, too.

it is extremely dated. i can't believe they played it on one of the first few dates of the Licks Tour. Steel Wheels has some really really good songs and some really not so great. This one and Can't Be Seen make me cringe.

I love the ballads on Steel Wheels too...two of the best ones they ever did. And Continental Drift is very, very cool. I've read reviews that have bashed it but I really like the cool psychedelic 60s feel of it.
