I sort of met Keith. I was on my way to a Dead show at MSG in 87 or 88. It's hard to remember those days.
Anyway, while walking down Broadway, between 14th and 8th,(on the way to the subway) Keith was walking with his wife and child the opposite way.
Keith had the child on his shoulder and was looking very happy.
He connected to my group of 4 guys immediately because we all had Dead Gear on. He stopped in his tracks and said, "You guys going to see Jerry tonight?" I was so stunned I did not know what to say. I was shoulder to shoulder with my hero.
He could tell we were tripping and totally freaked out. He walked on and said something like, "be safe and tell Jerry I said hello". I'll never forget that moment.
Jerry rocked btw.

She doesn't have to! They're very much in love - still. And he's the kind of man who's faithfull to his woman. He sees temptations and he admits he drools every now and then. But he's a good guy. And besides - he's so aware of the fact that it was Patti who got him off heroin. And he's said on different occations: I'm not letting the bitch go! (The rock'n'roll way of saying " I love her far to much to do anything to make her want to leave me!")

I would shit my pants and then promptly die.

Besides, I bet the sheer magnitude of his presence would crush my pathetic mortal body long before I had the chance to shit.

It very much depends on the character of the meeting. I mean, it makes a difference if you see Keith or Mick just for a moment and say 'Hi man' or if you have the opportunity to talk with them. In the second case I imagine it as quite normal as with any other person, talking about all kinds of things. Why should there be anything 'artificial'? Besider music I would like to talk to him about history if he is interested as much in it as it is always said.

HUH? Switch? Switch what, steak sauce? Yeah, I'll go from Heinz 57 to A-1 for my next Bar-be-que if Keith promises to play a full concert in my backyard with set list by MicksBrain. It's a bit of a sacrifice cause I love Heinz but for a backyard concert I guess i can deal with it...once - The show MUST rock though !!!

Do you think KEEF and JERRY GARCIA were friends? I never thought of that, but I loved Jerry, he was awesome. I never thought of KEEF as a DEADHEAD! Both bands played NOT FADE AWAY and JOHNNY B GOODDE so maybe there is a connecton!

i'd ask him what he was reading now...thus by not going gaga he would say to himself,
"hmmm, here's an interesting bloke, no autograph? nothing about music? what i'm bloody reading at the moment?"
he would then bring me to the famous conneticut library ( i fell off the ladder over there), we would smoke some marlboros, drink a couple of beers, and
talk about books and the such...it would be a nice time...

That's funny that you come up with this as I was dreaming exactly of that situation...
I went up to Keith and said:

"Hi Keith, how's the head?" ;-)
