Every week I check out the BBC top 40, I think it's one of the strangest Top 40 in the world.

Very strange, the last week on the UK top 75 for 40 Licks was in 2003 during the UK Licks tour. The last week on the top 200 was 8 months ago!

So far, 82 weeks in the UK top 200, 30 in the top 75.

I've seen two commercials for "40 Licks" on British TV this evening !! Love the way they advertise it as being "out now"

speaks volumes for how the Stones and their management see things that instead of advertising the new album which the tour is named after they choose to advertise a greatest hits album that was released almost four years ago

This really is the 40 Licks tour in all but name - even more so than the last one!

extra advertising with a tour coming up plus publicity for it with Keith being in the news of late doesnt do any harm

Perhaps it's my local food-store who is to blame. They have about 40 copies of it.

According to an early Music week report, it's the highest re-entry on the top 30 this year.
This confirms my theory of bad promotion for ABB, with loads of TV commercials you get a hit single or album.

Stones story and Rolled gold were so much better!!!Some songs are cut.Do not like it so much.

Yes, and especially the coverwork! Rolled Gold, both front, back and inside is a real treat!

Those lp s the sountrack of Roosters life...40 licks been neclected by me..the tour was very very good...this tour just gets a poor boy insane!!!

Ok- I'm getting old. I only recognized three of the artis' higher than The Stones.

if by "bad promotion," you mean the inclusion of Streets of Love, then I'm inclined to agree.

SOL, bad release date, the strange cover...

Streets Of Love is what killed A Bigger Bang for me.
Releasing it as a single was like sticking a pen in my heart.

Laugh I Nearly Died would have done the trick.
It would have been played on rock radio as well as Soul/R&B stations,
and it's one of the better songs on the album.


40 Licks back in the top 40?
Unbelieveable, with all the edits and bad song selections on disc 2.
I'm depressed now.

New tourdates and Keith back on his feet gets people away buying records.

Remember Bridges To Babylon coming back on Norwegian list the days around their gig in Oslo. That was mopre than a year after the release, and more than 6 months after it fell out of the list in the first place.

maybe this will convince them to drag out Don't Stop again - I'd prefer it to Rough Jvstice or ONNYA!

Rolled Gold was my first ever Stones record. Now look at what it did. Collecting virtually every Stones record UK and US. Not to mention tons of other great stuff. Seeing every tour since Still Life. So although 40 Licks may fall below our standards as a whole, look at what it might lead a newly found fan to.


DAMN. Less records to go around.

This all makes perfect sense to me. The Stones have taken Keith’s accident and the publics natural interest and turned it into an opportunity to sell more copies of 40 Licks. Lets face it; they're more likely to reach for a CD jammed for of classics over A Bigger Bang. The management knows this and that’s for reason for plugging the hits package and not their latest effort.

£5.99 for a 40 track compilation?- can't be bad,
clever marketing, with Father's Day, just around the corner..

40 Licks has most of the Stones' hits.
If you're not a fan like we all here are, and only want a Stones-record, you go for 40 Licks. Like you did with Jump Back a few years ago.

I bet if 40 Licks never were released, Jump Back would be the one on the lists.

Bad new or good news, there has been a lot of Stones on TV, radio, in newspapers and on the internet lately, most because of Keith and the tour. People think, just as when they see a new plate of chocolate on a commercial, I've got to try one.
And I bet many have thought; 'I haven't bought a Stonesrecord for years, I gotta have one.'

And with the low price too..
Saw ABB for £8 ($14) one day, I bought it new for £17 ($28) (usual Norwegian price).

I only paid 10 Euro for the BB, don't know why because on the record the price was 20 Euro but when I want to pay the guy said it only cost 10 Euro.

About the price of 40 Licks and think 10 Euro is enough, all the songs are already sold 10 or more times on other records. b.t.w I never buy this one I got all the songs already.
