Bruce You Naughty Boy

Just bought Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Racing In The Street, quotes:

"Summer's here and the time is right,
For racin' in the street."

Anyone know of anymore out right rip offs?

From "Hey Teacher" by Louis XIV (great band, by the way):

"Will it be alright if I see you tonight
Well, I feel like a bird in a cage
For you to notice me, Well I’d take out a knife
Suicide right on the stage."

But I see it as a tribute more than a ripoff.

I agree, stuff like that is more of a tribute than a ripoff. By the way, I envy you for getting to listen to Darkness for the first time. What an amazing album, one of my all-time favorites. "Lights out tonight, trouble in the heartland ..."

Yes, tribute seems a more pleasant way of seeing it.

This for me is the best part of IORR. Discussion and education. I have learned more now than 10 minutes ago. Thanks. Much more stimulating than whats been surfacing here lately.

I fully agree that strong lyrics are the trademark of Springsteen. Maybe he does that in a more brilliant way than Dylan. " Enjoy the elegant lyrics", yes I do. He is the songwriter of these 2 to 3 last decades anyway.

Remember that Mick copped the Street Fighting Man line from Martha & The Vandellas' Dancing In The Street.

"Summer's here and the time is right for dancing in the street"

It's all part of the grand tradition!

To the difference that Fighting and dancing are not about the same story. But I fully agree. Had he this in mind. Dunno.

This years most successfull band in Norway, The DumDumBoys, have included some fat riffs from "Let's Spend The Night Together" on one song, "Stengetid" (Closing Time). It's a great tune, and the guitarist - who writes all their stuff (mostly) - once had all of Keith's habbits. He's clean now, but he still writes fantastic poetry, great tunes and is looking great. Here's to you Kjartan, we know this is done out of admiration and love.

Of all Bruce's great "car" songs, my favorite is an obscure gem of a track titled "Stolen Car"... the lament of a hopelessly broken relationship....

As for Bruces "car rockers", is there any greater than "Ramrod" ??

"It's just that demon life has got me in it's sway..."
