Tops takes me to the top!

Inspired by the Worried About You apprecation thread - here's one devoted to Tops! Post here if agree that this is a true forgotten diamond! (forget gems!) It's been played only three times (correct me if I'm wrong, Gazza or ErikJJF - actually I'm sure you will without me needing to ask!) and it's hightime for a triumphant return! Who's with me?

Tops is just excellent.
But I don't think we'll hear it played by RS again.
Luckily, I can play it on guitar!

That's small consolation, Erik.

Love the early versions of "Tops" when Jagger was still shaping the song.
That middle 8 with Taylor taking over then is priceless.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

One of the best ballads going. It's nice to hear ballads that feature a guitar intro.

yep, love it. Took me forever to piece together the lyrics, especially as a wee lad... there's a maturity to the song's theme, despite the sing-songy refrain.

I HATE IT, IT'S A BAG OF SH1TE.
Effeminate singer, amateur guitar player, rhythm section from hell...

Joking, it's another great one!!!

Hey Baby...Oily.

It's missing the parts that aren't there & it's just Watts being Watts,it doesn't do anything for me.Nothing can match the '62 live version.
I don't believe this but,I'm just throwing out some of the stuff that gets posted here.

THey only tried it 3 times.
Almost all songs they did in the very beginning, even Tumbling Dice and other well-known songs, didn't work the first week of the 1981 tour.

have you ever actually listened to it live? its tops material!

Uh, actually I agree with you Nikki, in contrast to what it looks like 2 posts above. It was loose and unrehearsed-groovy, yet very, very cool nevertheless.
I meant that it wasn't nailed.....at least not for the unexperienced listener.
I aften pick up the live version. I still haven't got the Boulder-Tops, though.

When I shell out 10 million bucks to have the Stones play my next birthday party, I'm going to demand that this be in the setlist . . .

Re: Tops takes me to the top!

If you have set list demands, expect to pay 25 million dollars.Ten million will get you 18 or 19 warhorses.
