What's the best tour ?
Posted by: Elliott ()
Date: May 5, 2006 18:32

Hi Friends,

I need to know one thing :

I sow the boys many times from 1981 to 2003, but in fact I don't know if I want to go see them this year

My question is : Is this tour better then ever or what ?

For me the best tour was:

1990 Urban tour
1995 Voodoo tour

Convince me...

Thank you

Ok, you have a point. Or two. '72 is a good second, but nothing just beats '81. Especially because I'm more of a Ron-boy.

How can 72 be better than 73, or vise versa? They're both flying up there.
Charlie had better shirts and hair in 72, that's all.

wrong - '73 saw the infusion of vastly inferior GHS songs to the detriment of th setlist. no bye bye johnnie - one of the highlights of '72. please go away.

'69 like a fine vintage wine knocks '81 out of it's spine

81/82 was a pretty good tour. I liked Urban Jungle in 90. I liked somehow the Voodoolounge when they started to vary more in the setlists.
I did not like the whole Babylon thing.
But for me of course is 2003 with the Theatre and last year in the US my favourite. They don't get younger they don't get older, they are different. And for me they changed for the good. Anyway it's just another oppinion

The best tour since the reunion in 1989 was the Voodoo Lounge Tour 1994/1995.

Don't know about this tour (haven't seen them yet), but from what I hear on the various boots, Voodoo Lounge remains the best tour since 1989.

72-73 musically
early 75 RnR spectacle and decadance (before Mick's voice went)
05-06 sound quality and availability of excellent seats
78
94
81 still don't like the setlist and 81 was a disappointment after 78 which was a big let down from 75.
02-03
99
97-98

The best stadium for me was Wembley 1990 Steel Wheels, saw them twice in 1982 in England, 1st time I was so excited couldn't take it in at all, 2nd time in Leeds, pretty good, to be honest I don't like the mechanical sped up quality they had then, although the Hampton boot from then is truly great. I loved 1975, didn't seethem then, but the roughness, the manic speed, the sheer unpredictability with Ronnie is very exciting, and of course perhaps the element that cannot be replaced is their sheer confidence. 1995 at wembley ok, but Brixton Academy was truly amazing, I knew WHY I had loved them for so long, it was, as much as I hate the word, awesome. B2B was the lowest for me, I loved the film they had at the start, but after that it felt plain dull, too far away, the stones had lost their magic, even Sheperd's Bush Empire was only Ok( although I would not have swapped it for the world) decided not too go again, forced myself to go to see them at Wembley Arena 2003, dreading it a bit, with new girlfriend, AND they came on and were truly fantastic, fabulous energy. Everything I've heard from this tour sounds very promising they sound looser, fresher, especially at this point of the tour, and they seem to be playing the songs with an effortlessness, even a lubriciousness that defies their age. Unless they mesh and are inspired they can sound a very stiff band BUT when they come together they were and can still be unbelievable, SO the answer is THERE IS EVERYTHING TO PLAY FOR.....GO GO GO

The very best tours: 71/72 and Forty Licks...

VooDoo Lounge was right up there too.

North America 1972: Pure magic from start to finish.

North America 1969: Dark. SATANIC. This tour was too short! They started to sound good when it was already over.

North America 1975: Dirty-ass rock´n roll. Most underrated tour.

Licks 2002/2003: Particularly the North America 2002 leg.

Australia 1973

Europe 1970

Europe 1973: Good but overrated.

UK 1971

North America 1978

North America 1981 & Europe 1982: Most overrated tour. I don´t get the hype.

The overblown "Vegas tours" (1989/90, 1994/95 & 1997/98/99): They all have their moments but generally don´t interest me at all.

A Bigger Bang Tour 2005/2006: The only good thing about the current tour is the improved sound mix.

Europe 1976: Painful to listen to. No energy, no swing, nothing. Worst tour ever.
