OT: My bird!!

I just found my parakeet. Dead. I know, you're probably thinking, "it's just a bird", but that's not what it's like! His name was a bit cheesy(Par, and his girl was named Kiet, as in parkiet, which is Dutch for parakeet), but he wasn't. I've had him for about 5 years. It was a nice chap.. nice and green.. he was always so happy and relaxed in his little cage. He had a girl and they had a little baby bird.. those two, always fighting, and he'd always be on the side just sitting there and having a drink(of water, I'm not gonna make it that romantic). He'd never sit on my hand, he was kind of shy. One time he took a poop on me too. But he's forgiven. Sometimes I'd take a plant sprayer and give him a shower. Yes people, a shower!! Don't worry, he enjoyed it. He'd fly over to me and hang on the bars and I'd spray his chest all wet, hahaha it was so much fun.

But now he's dead and gone.. ah, you must be bored, but spare a thought for old Par!!

since I detest parakeets (we have one - and it drives me nuts), I can only offer you a smile, reptile.

Good Idea, Eric.

And then after No Expectations you should play "And your bird can sing", on second thought...

So sorry, Reptile, a beloved pet's demise is a major loss, but I couldn't help but think of Monty Python's famous "Dead Parrot" sketch.

"'E isn't dead. He's resting."

Again, sorry for my insensitivity, but that sketch IS a classic.

Once I watching two birds for my girlfriend when she went home to California for Christmas. (I live in Chicago.) I was watching NYPD Blue in another room and when I went to look at them later one was dead in the corner of the cage. That was one of the hardest calls I've ever had to make.

Then two years ago I was in London, staying at the home of a virologist. One of his big cockatoos (sp?) kept saying "SARS, SARS." I kid you not!

Sad for this kind of loss, Reptile.
Our pets' death prepares us for our close
and fellow men and womens death, even maybe our children's.

Life is full of is, and it sux but we have to live with it.
Worst of all to bear, may be the insight of
our own certain death. A friend of mine has cancer
and will soon be away. O, how I hate all this death.

Ive got a fish that's 15 years old!
And once, I was taking out some kind of "tree-stuff"(can't find the English word for it), that is on bottom of the aquarium. I washed it in the basement, with really hot water.
And all of a sudden this fish fell out of it, and was washed down the drain. So I unscrewed the pipes, below the sink, and found him, 2 meters down the drain. I took him (or her) up, and ran up to the aquarium. It had been 2 minutes.
But he survived, and now he is 15 years. I think he'll live longer than me.

Hey Erik, that's a funny story. We just got some fish for my little guy, and every time I clean it, I fear that same thing is going to happen! I'll try to remember to put the drain cap on from now on. Thanks for the warning!

BTW, that tree stuff, do you mean moss, algae? I just call it "that scum on the bottom of the aquarium". Scuzz works also.

Yeah, my son is almost 5. I talk about him all the time, how could you have missed that!

I don't actually read your post. Just kiddin'.. almost 5.. so does he like the boys or what? Well, I mean does he like the Stones, not is he gay.

Re: OT: My bird!!

Funny that you said the gay thing. The very first time I held him, I told him that I want him to know he can come to me with anything and I'll always love him. I remember saying something about him being gay in there, and for him to know that I will always understand.

He's a sweet little guy. Yeah, he likes "the boys".

I think I told this story the other day on here. But a commerical came on with Snoopy and the Peanuts gang. Jack says to me, "Hey Mom, where's Charlie Brown, or is it Charlie Watts I forget."
