This just proves, when it comes to this ABB Tour, the fans rank DEAD LAST...

After all these bloodsucker promoters and fan club entourage get their piece...

How in the &^%$# can the Stones miss Dublin of all places... aren't the Chili Peppers doing like 3 nights there this Summer ?? or maybe even opening there ??

But this worthless corporate no-talents can't even find a way to do a Dublin show between them.

If Mick learned anything at the London school of Economics, you would think he'd learn incompetence when he sees it and drop the whole lot of these lamers.

THAT is a very good question indeed. I agree with you; it really is nothing short of scandalous that for whatever reason or reasons - this is being allowed to happen.

considering the fact that between 1965 and 2003 the Stones played exactly ONE show in Ireland (at Slane castle in 1982 to a crowd of over 70,000) I would say their audience in this part of the world would have got used to being by-passed

Wow, no Dublin and (possibly) no Wembley. Are the Stones trying to avoid you, Gazza? Do they owe you money?

yeah....I'm still paying off the Voodoo Lounge tour on my credit card!

Like I said, I was doing Glasgow instead of Dublin so I think I made the right choice

London will go ahead in August, I'm pretty sure. It just wont be at Wembley IMO

And for those of you who think the Stones are doing this to spite me, be afraid if you have tickets for Nice & Berlin too, because I'm supposed to be goin' there too!

I'm compiling quite a list of cities not to go to on my (probably imaginary) European vacation.

I think it's "United Kingdom and Northern Ireland", isn't it?

(UK = Scotland, Wales and ........ oh, and what's the other one...... oh yes, the Land of Hope and Glory).

I think there is also something called the British Empire. Don't know if that is different from Great Britain. But the British Empire was all those colonies including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India and many others - I think. Don't shoot me if I am wrong.

It is important to understand cultural and ethic differences. I don't think this has anything to do with politics. May be with religion. But not politics. People from Scotland or Wales does not live in England. They live in UK.

Too bad they have problems in Dublin. I always had this dream of something similar to Slain Castle 1982. Lots of fans on a field in Ireland. The more people the better. Sure the small shows on the last tour was great, but nothing can beat a large crowd of ordinary people. The club and arena people brag about set lists and demand strange solo playing and hate guest spots. The ordnaly fans are not that spoiled. They might not have seen the Stones since 1982. They would be happy with any Stones song, and so would I.

The Empire is essentially what is now known as The Commonwealth and, as you say, consists of other countries which have the Queen as head of state. 'Great Britain' is England, Scotland, Wales plus the small islands

You have been spared from the firing squad! smiling smiley

Officially, the long name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Gazza,

I was tempted to get into "the Six Counties" or " The Province" territory, but decided not top go there.

But how about instead........

"Give Ireland back To the Irish"! by Paul MacCartney. Banned by BBC for some inexplicable reason. So we got the delightful C Moon instead, I think.

Thanks Beast. That would make the Sex Pistols Anarchy Iin the UK even harder to digest.

Good. unless you actually live there, I've no interest in your opinions. They hold no credibility as far as I'm concerned.

Can we all get REAL here? YOU KNOW BONO is behind this whole thing...... It's a no brainer, he does not want the Stones to do better in his hometown, this one's SO OBVIOUS...Blame it on BONO......

Even if he had Jesus as a co-headliner, the Pope wouldnt outdraw U2 in Dublin, mate...lol

Gazza,

I glibly stated Maccas opinion, circa mid 70s.

Unglibly,

I didn't say I had opinions. I was just alluding to other titles that have been used for the area where you live. No harm in this board's readership being aware of 'Northern Ireland' from other perspectives. No harm in your response either.

(But if I were to state my opinions, I don't think that their credibilty would necessarilly (sp?) depend on where I live. It might depend on how well I'm acquainted with history and with all the social, political, cultural, religious etc influences involved. But to have lived there might give a better understanding. Or it might make one biased and blinded by partisanship. There is something called diplomacy. Kissinger is held as a good example. (And I find him credible because he loves football!).

I think Bob Geldof's opinions hold/held a lot of credibility. Yeah, and I'd say they did some good.)

I won't 'go there' again.

Cheers mate

Just to clarify though - I'm certainly not "blinded by partisanship" as I didnt actually express a 'partisan' opinion, but a factual statement!! (I'd never use a music site to express any politics I happen to have)

smiling smiley

PS : Macca is a twat

Fantastic bassist though. Re-jigging the songs authorship was the pits.

p.s I wasn't meaning to paint yourself with the partisan brush.

Generally agree about keeping this board mainly for music. I've learnt a bit from some of the 'broader' threads and the possibilties of cross-cultural stuff on this board are one a large reason for why I still check in from time to time.

Cheers.
