Nope, i'm 22 years old.

I do understand some peoples gripes with 80's music and yeah, I'd go along with some of it. It just so happens that I like a couple of 80's bands, that's all.

There was much bad in the 80s.
Of course, a lotsa musics sucks now too.
But I get the feeling that even the good artists, had a horrible soundmix from 1983 - 1989. Guitars sounded like pianos and drums sounded like "magical sounds" from cartoon-movies.
Even though bad music has been all the way from the 50s....the good bands had their own sound, and set their own set of rules. In the 80s, everybody got hurt. Have you thought about how it would have sounded if Elvis lived (and sang) in the 80s?
Even the Stones, Bowie, Springsteen, Dylan, AC/DC, Dire Straits, Neil Young, Johnny Cash (and others) suffered terrible losses in this decade (especially in the 2nd half).

For some reason, BIG Al sounds like it belongs to someone older. I think you'll even get BIGGER as you get older. You may need to consider that in light of your chosen handle....

Heaven knows why I chose Big Al as my handle! I was in a fluster when I registered and I guess I just typed in the first thing that came in my head. It was my nickname at primary school for some reason.

I'm Honky Tonk Man over at Rocks Off.

I don't think that the 80's were so bad. The classic rock was still popular for the masses and bands like the Stones were regular in the Top 40. Practically, EVERY artist got a chance for popular resurgence and the new acts were current and popular over the years.
SADLY, all ended in 1991 with the grunge. It was the hit of death for the classic rock and a complete change of the music scene. Bands like the Stones are dinosaurs for the kids, a band for their grandfathers. Even worse for Stones' contemporaries that disappeared from the public view despite of good releases during the 90's and this decade.
The last charting albums for many of the 60's or 70's artists were in 1992-1993 and many released albums until this year inclusive. Many artist never recorded again due comericial failures.
Give me the 80's anytime over this decade, that's why I love my country Argentina. The current music scene made a little impact here, almost zero. The classic rock is still popular among the kids, just like the 70's or the 80's in the States.

Please explain. You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) was a great number 1 for Dead Or Alive in the 80's and the 21st century remix hit was ace too. It's all good!

Go Pete Burns!

Well, 99% of the music is either hip hop or digitalized..

I liked some stuff from the 80's - most AC/DC stuff, Duran Duran, Bowie, the Romantics, Motley Crue and even Iron Maiden. In my opinion, it wasn't all bad. Even the Stones had some good stuff! Hell, here's my top 5 albums from the 80's:

Back In Black - AC/DC
Steel Wheels - Stones
Rio - Duran Duran
Never Let Me Down - Bowie
Powerslave - Iron Maiden smiling smiley

Well, if you're directly referring to POP music, then how can you even bring hip-hop in to it? It's a different genre altogether. Yes, loosely, pop music = POPULAR, but we all know it's a genre on it's own. What do you mean by digitalized? Do you mean lack of guitars, drums and bass? If you do, I suppose your right there, but digitalized can be good. It's the tune that counts in my book. If it's catchy and easy on the ears, I'm happy! Back to an earlier point, if you WERE to look at pop music as just a reference to what's POPULAR, then why are you moaning? The singles and especially the album chart, has been absolutely littered with great guitar bands over the past year or so!

Reptile, what you are talking about is not music.
Hip hop and techo isn't to be considered here.
If we look at good band, like Stones and .... ..... ......(fill in the blanks), the 80s dragged them down. In the 90s and the 2000s, the sound sounded as great as the 70s (or 60s).
The crappy 80s sound, destroyed EVERYBODY.
Some artists mangaged to stay good half of the decade (Springsteen/Bowie for instance), but didn't manage the whole decade.
If you are talking about big HITS, 99% have been crappy all the way back to the 50s.

Eh?

That’s rubbish and you know it!

Every week throughout the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's and beyond, great songs have been released. There have been dry periods, but good music always shone through. Honestly, Erik, I don't think I've ever read a more DAFT post!

OK, Big Al, lower it to 90% or 80%. Would it suit you then? Great songs have been released, but if you are talking about the TOP of the hit lists, there's a lot of bullshit. Abba, Coldplay, Cliff Richard, Celine Dion, Dr Hook etc. etc.
If that is the DAFTEST post you have ever seen, then you got a problem, mate.

The 80s was my generation. I suppose if you're not from a particular generation it would seem strange to anyone not part of it. I became a Stones fan in the 80s, the Ron Wood era, so it can't be all bad! It was a fun, lighthearted time.

I have no problems. I just think that 99% is somewhat of an exaduration. Heck, I'd say 80-90% is too! For every crap hit, there has been a good hit. Yeah, all those acts you've listed are defiantly register on my crap radar, but for everyone of those, we have a Beatles top ten, a Stones top ten, a Who top ten and so on.

Perhaps you've got no problems (sorry about that), but if you look through the top 10 lists of this week, or the last, or any lists from whatever year, there's a lot of forgotten artists, that stinks a great deal. The ones I mentioned are FAMOUS artists, and yet they stinks.
My point of my first post, was that the great bands, run their own race, but in the 80s, even they got damaged. The big mass of annoying noise will always be there, no-matter what year we're talking about.

2. AC/DC - Back in Black

AND . . . . . . . (drum roll)

I actually thought that the eighties were great.I grew up then and much to my disgust and horror along came the nineties.Grunge killed pop, rock, musicianship, blues and feeling good about urself.Sorry,I know the trend here is to say it sucks but this decade and anything from 1992-93 onwards is just boring, depressing, ugly, replusive and disgraceful. The only saviours are Jet and The Darkness. This decade, the noughties,is nothing more than grunge with added gayness.

I was reffering to Top 40 music. I don't like digitalized music because the musician can't put any emotion in it. There's nothing like bending a guitar string. And the "great guitar bands" you refer too are crap in my opinion. For some strange reason they all look like the Beatles and they have a really bad drummer. They all have really cheap black die in their hair. The singer sticks his microphone halfway down his throat and starts grunging a bit. Then the bass player does some strange dance to it. No thank you, I'll stick with less popuplar music.

Not yet. I have the riff written down and I'll be learning it as son as I get access to my guitar on Monday!
