Isn't this one of their best covers. This should of been played & would be a great one -2 punch back to back with Carol. I think this song is so good! Gets the juices flowing esp when cranked up! Other big fans of this tune? Any love hate or indifferent??? MEZ

I like Chuck's version better. With the exception of Bye Bye Johnny, I don't think the Stones' Chuck covers really exceeded the originals until they went into Chess.

I like the crappiness of the recording on this one. mick sounds like he's singing in a can. You're right, it doesn't quite have the swagger of "Down the Road Apiece."

I'm from New Jersey, so this track has a special fondness with me. Springsteen even clipped lyrics from this one (Open All Night; Growin Up live monologue). I like the Stones version.

Lennon also borrowed the lyrics for the opening lines of "Come Together" and got sued by Berry - and had to cover some of Chuck's songs on "Rock 'n' Roll" as a form of compensation

The Stones version is one of my personal favourites of theirs - possibly in my top 10 on a good day. Its also the one song I would really love to hear them play in concert (theyve never played it) - ideally on a b-stage.

Gazza - Interesting story about Lennon. I know the line ("...here come ol flattop..."), but didn't know the Rock n Roll story.

they are sounding most well if i may say so -
Down the Road Apiece is even better, but this one rolls real fine too.

I prefer You Can't Catch Me to Down The Road Apiece. I've always thought that should be the last song they should ever play when/if they do a farewell tour - "you can't catch me/'cause if you get too close I'm gone like the cool breeze," then bam, they are gone!

Great tune!
What makes it even better is that it's preceded by 'Down home Girl'.

Yeah, a great loose one-take tune. Just catches the band riding the beam.
