Let´s drink...to our English teachers (otherwise we wouldn´t be here)

Thanks to Mrs. Störtenbecker, a Maggie Thatcher kind of woman.
She did her best (but I didn´t;-)

It´s far from perfect but I do try!

This board wouldn´t work for all those non-native speakers without
that good ol´ school English.

Who tried to teach you?

I had a really cool English teacher. He writes poems, and give out books.
Me and my friends, invited him to some parties, together with the rest of the class. And he showed up. Turned out that he really liked blues (and beer).
Next year we played a concert, with he singing, one on piano, and 2 guitarists. It was really good.

Mrs. Störtenbecker would say "Well, taught was better!"

I actually edited it!! Hahaha!! That was an unforgivable mistake to make in a topic like this. I hoped nobody would notice!

I am very impressed by the quality of English I have been reading from those of you who do not speak English as your native language. There are many English speaking people who do not write as well as you do.

I taught English to Alex Turner and Matt Helders of the Arctic Monkeys (yes I'm serious and showing off unforgiveably...in fact I may have mentioned it before, but wouldn't you?!))

My English teacher is a cool guy. He likes blues too. He's a bit strange but then again so am I. But I hardly need English class... I learn it all on this fabulous board.

My sentiments exactly! You guys do so well. I'm jealous. I've been trying to learn French for about 20 years and still can't converse. When I was in school we didn't get the option for a second language till high school, that's way too late.

It still cracks me up that Baboon Bro knows "birfday".

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

We grow up with English. It's all around you. In Stones lyrics(!), telivision, on the internet, it's really different from learning French or other languages. At least, that's my expierience.

I'd like to learn how to speak German so I could communicate better with all the fine German people out there. Living in Southern California, I hear some serious butchery of the English language to the point I don't even think it could be classified as such anymore. Whatever your native language is, please embrace it and master it and learn as many other languages as possible. The future will be greatly impacted by it. I really believe that. I love this board and interacting with fans from all over the world. I'm glad that I didn't let StonesTod scare me away. smiling smiley

I thought it was a pretty good joke when you wrote 'teached'. Too bad you edited it.

He wrote "taught" at first.

I once lived in San Diego and that brings back memories of Frank Zappa's song "Valley Girls".

Any conversation with a California girl always includes the word "awesome" the buzz word of the day.

I'm a California Girl! Don't forget the "dude" or "chick" after awesome! Could you stereotype any more? Awesome is no longer the buzz word of the day and hasn't been since shortly after I was born. Also, San Diego is an ocean beach city. You are thinking San Fernando Valley!

Too Tough, looks like we can have at least two drinks together in Berlin - one to you (it's your birthday, right?) and one to me (Yes, I am an English teacher).

I remember Ms or mrs Lavies, my English teacher when I was 15. I had a small crush on her. I thew in a lotta Stones songtitles in any test. She was nice and funny.

Wonder what has become of her.

Princess,

No offense, but I do hear the word quite often today, especially on a lot of those west coast HGTV shows. No geography lesson needed with the "Valley Girl" song but it was a hit everywhere. Now that was a stereotype.

The thing with English teachers in my days is that you don't appreciate their skills until well after graduation. IMO a tough course to master.

no, in Amsterdam. but there are some more on the board, e.g. Juan from San Sadurni(Catalunya).
I teach languages, that is one of the reasons I also edit the fortylicksfanclub website in 7 languages.

Mine was an as...le.

But I remember we had a replacement teacher for some weeks. She had about the biggest set of gazongas you can imagine. Her name was ms. Van Berne.

One time we did grammer and she read out loud from a the excersise book: "When we visit Switserland we always go see the mountains."

Now as you know Bern is the Swiss capital, we couldn't stop laughing and she didn't understand. Well, puberty.

Damn that must be twelve years ago.

Thanks to Else Meldgaard, John Andersen, Anita Bendixen, Lisen Olby, Helle Hansen and Britta Mogensen. They taught me in English. Some of them in the gymnasium and some in grade school. And by the way: Guess who's on the way to become an English teacher......? grinning smiley

Experienced a similar thing: We knew we would get a new teacher in biology.
Biology sucked, always. All the boys sat way back in the room.

One day we heard the clik clak of her feet on the stairs...there she was,
our biology teacher, 25, hot.

All the boys squeezed though the door to get FOS tickets, front row;-)
