On the version of Memo From Turner on the soundtrack to Performance, who are the musicians? I know that Ry Cooder plays guitar --and of course I know the vocalist-- but what about the rest of the band?

Seems that I read somewhere that members of "Traffic" back Mick on this track.

Jimmy Page also played on the solo Jagger version of "Memo"

And another source says Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi also played on it

Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi from Traffic play on the original demo...the only confirmed musician on the finished version is Cooder. Page isnt on it.

Again, I read that in one of my books. I think the one that covers all the sessions song by song and session by session. I don't know.

Here's some stuff I found online:

Nico Zentgraf's exhaustive Complete Works books on the Rolling Stones reflect the Metamorphosis version as recorded 11/17/68 with Al Kooper on keyboards and no mention of other players.

Steve Winwood has personally communicated that he did not perform on this song (many thanks to Steve Winwood, 10/2002).

Can't find much on the Performance version, other than the common knowledge that Ry Cooder was on it.

Memo is such a cut & paste job but it goes something like this.....


#1 known demo version featured Winwood on piano, bass, guitar, bass with Capaldi on drums.

#2 version which is diff from first features only Al Kooper & Keith on guitars.

#3 uses #2 backing additonal acoustic guitar and slightly different vocals.

#4 uses #2 backing with lead guitar and new lead vocals.

#5 Soundtrack version uses Micks #1 vocals with completely different backing track featuring Ry Cooder on guitar.
