There are a couple of ones by Guns n' Roses floating around - one is a studio outtake from the Appetite sessions, the other is a live acoustic version. Neither one done particularly well - kind of disappointing. I downloaded them and wound up deleting them right away - sorry.

The Motorhead cover of JJF is awesome!

But how they twist and they turn
And a dead end and a dusty old strip mall
Where your tires are all shredded and burned"

I think Mott the Hoople (a fine band once!) did a JJF sendup on the fadeout of the original "Walkin with a Mountain."

Have always wanted the Aretha/KR version. Have Leon Russel live at the George's Garden benefit...and it is great! I am afraid to hear what GNR did, especially after the hatchet job they did on the officailly released SFD.

The Vines did a great Paint It Black version. Would their JJF...

The Flamin' Grovies did a great version of PIB live. Lead banjo just cooked. Not sure if they recorded it.

Here's a pretty unusual one:

"Jumpin' Jack Flash" - Green On Red live in Paris 1987:

[s52.yousendit.com]

GoR did a heartstopping version of "Wild Horses" in 1985 or 86, I'll post it later maybe.

Any Green On Red fans out there? Please contact me!

Hello,

I'm never too enthusiastic about other people covering the Stones, but Ananda Shankar's JJF is wicked. He's a relative (nephew I think) of Ravi Shankar. I heard his version in a club in London one night and it sounded just brilliant.

Thing about version from folks like Frampton is they are wimpy. They don't get the 1-2 punch of the riff. It HAS to be there. Leon gets it on the piano.
To be honest I hate the Aretha version that was produced by Keith. What really bothered me was that Keith brought in the percussion around the instrumental break. That is such a typical Stones gimmick. It is vintage Jimmy Miller/Glimmer Twins. And I just felt that Keith had the opportunity to produce Aretha and could have gottne a lot more adventurous.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

Check this for Aretha's version (feat. Keith himself)
