If anything, this thread must be about Horst Tappert.

Horst Tappert, born in Elberfeld (now Wuppertal), Germany on May 26, 1923, is a German actor who is most famous for playing Inspector Stephan Derrick in the television drama Derrick.

Divorced twice he lives now with his 3rd wife Ursula (since 1957). He is father of three children.

After having followed a commercial formation he joined the army for Germany in the 2nd World War.

He gave his debut at the theatre in Stendal, Germany, playing Dr. Stribel in Helwigs "Die Flitterwochen".

From 1945 to 1947 he followed courses of comedy. In the following years, he changed time of theatre to find himself in 1956 in Theatre of Munich. Independent actor since 1967, it takes part, today still, with many rounds.

End of the Fifties begins for him a career with the cinema and television. He takes part in many films of Edgard Wallace ("Jerry Cotton"). His big breakthrough was in 1966 with the tv-show in 3 parts "Die gentlemen bitten zur Kasse". From there it is subscribed with the roles of gentleman-ganster until finally the role of Derrick decides of its career.

His character "Stephan Derrick" became a cult figure all over the world.

Thanks to Derrick, Horst Tappert is the only German actor who has ever had fan-clubs abroad. And since these clubs are also to be found in Holland and France, it can be said without any exaggeration that Horst Tappert, in addition to his role on television, has become an unofficial ambassador for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Tappert, who played the main role for almost 25 years (1974-1998), had reached the age limit he had set himself. At 75 he retired from the TV screen.
