The Stones always improve Motown for me.

I don't listen to much original Motown.

Stax is another matter.

they cover Stax very well too ...but it's usually gutsy enough already.

I've always liked and listened to original Stax.

Well, there’s a few ‘Stax’ recordings mentioned here, already!

Someone name-checked ‘Cry To Me’ - it was released on the Atlantic label!

This is a thread about ‘Motown covers’ - not soul, in general!

Well I think that we should broaden it to all soul covers, and in that case, I'll go with That's How Strong My Love Is. Just brilliant.

There’s absolutely no way Diana Ross would be impressed with Brian Jones! A classy lady, ‘engaging with a drunkard’ She’s wagging her finger! grinning smiley

If we are broadening it to soul in general? Anything recorded in the 60’s is excellent. Well, except ‘My Girl’ Although, that’s at the poppier end of the Motown and soul spectrum.

They supposedly did Standing In The Shadows Of Love. I remember reading that sometime back around the Emotional Rescue era, in a magazine. I've never heard about it since so maybe not? I'd love to hear Mick sing that one!

For the love of...COME ON BRIAN, you are talking to Diana M'F'n ROSS!

You have a stain on your shirt, unsightly. Get with the program!

Next time don't wear a white turtleneck to a party.

Under the Broadwalk.
Makes me smile. When it first came out I expected them to cover Up on the Roof next.
Here's the live version with Aaron Neville.

Tbh, no Miracles cover would be my favorite because you can't better Smokey Robinson IMO. And they do pretty much the same arrangements, so it's not like bands reinterpret a song.
