Top 5 Hackney Diamonds Shows

Now that the Hackney Diamonds U.S. tour has concluded, I think a discussion can be held about the tour's best shows, performances, etc. Qualifiers include set list, performance and playing level, individual songs that stood out, etc.

My personal Top 5 would be:

1. MetLife 2
2. Ridgedale
3. Santa Clara
4. Los Angeles 2
5. Chicago 2

Others I really enjoyed include Glendale and Vegas.

For me, this tour is in the Top 3 of any trek they've done from 2012 onward. The playing, energy and song selection was the highest and most consistent I've heard from them since...Zip Code, maybe? Keith started off a bit rough, but once he got back on track he was as good as he could probably get in his current state; he was driving the music again and playing with real focus and authority. Mick maybe has finally slowed down, but he can still muster up an impeccable level of showmanship that was fully on display at every show. Ronnie is the glue that holds them together. The supporting musicians did their job well, and for the first time in awhile it felt like they were truly supporting the music rather than covering for the core members' occasional errors.

The tour started off with a paltry 18 songs, and by the end we were getting 20. Keith graduated from one to three songs even after Mick recovered from whatever was ailing him mid-tour. The new songs, while we would have liked more, still added a fresh feel to the set that has been lacking for some time. This tour felt truly potent and engaging.

I know not everyone feels the same, but I will be revisiting this tour quite often. As a 33 year old, I missed the band's peak, so this incarnation is 'my' Rolling Stones, the live era I connect with most emotionally. They really outdid themselves for me on this trek.

Even though the band and setlist got better as the tour rolled on, Houston makes my top three.
Always an extra charge for the opening, this one particularly exciting with new music to be heard.

Top 5, based only on shows I attended.

1-Santa Clara
2-Houston
3-Vancouver
4-Seattle
5-Chi-2

I did nine shows (first 4, then Philly to Chicago).

1. Cleveland
2. Chicago2
3. Las Vegas

My least favorite was Chicago1. All in all great shows throughout, but Sixty tour was my favorite Keith tour. I’ve never seen him like he was during Mick’s recovery shows. Especially Lyon, Paris and Gelsenkirchen was incredible.

Also the two Hyde Park shows, Stockholm and Berlin. Wow!

But all solid shows this time around too, and lots of great moments (Irma Thomas at Jazz Fest is one that stands out). Now let’s hope for more dates. Soon!

Out of my 6 shows, Vegas, Foxboro, Orlando, Cleveland, Atlanta, and Denver.

Denver was hands down the best show musically. It was a full moon, I believe also the longest show and my favorite poster.

I saw five shows...
1. Vegas
2. Chicago 2 (musically, a bit better than Vegas but Vegas had more buzz)
3= Vancouver and Seattle
5. Chicago 1 (which I still enjoyed and it had a good buzz but there were a /lot/ of mistakes)

I think as far as Chicago 1 goes, if you are going to have She’s a Rainbow win the song vote, you can't follow it with Wild Horses. You need Monkey Man, Bitch, SFM, or something fast face to bring the energy back up. Wild Horses just killed the energy of Chicago 1. Light bouncy Rainbow followed by Wild Horses just didn't work. Chicago 2 had Shattered followed by Dead Flowers in the same spot. Flowed much better.

It would be great to hear from those lucky people who attended all or almost all of the shows to get their take on their top shows.

As for me, I "only" got to two shows, both in the pit so I think I can make a fair comparison. LA2 (on LDs!) and Santa Clara (paid the price). FWIW, I thought LA2 was a fabulous performance and Santa Clara almost measured up to that, but Santa Clara had amazingly clear sound.

That sums it up for me too.
Tell me straight became an instant icon for me.
I hate Keith for not having written it decades ago.
Amazing song live.

Having seen NO FILTER in 2019... what I've seen (heard via YouTube), 2024 is way better performance wise but more so song wise.

NO FILTER was auto-pilot.

HACKNEY 2024 was at least a little bit different. Which is reality - it was NO FILTER with 4 new songs.

NO FILTER was a poor name for that tour. Except for there being no filter on nostalgia - which they can't avoid.

My experience is that your own mood at the show and the atmosphere in the audience makes more of a difference than the playing of the band. Therefore I think it is not that easy to objectively rate shows.

From the videos my expression was that the New Jersey shows had the highest energy, also because of the audience.

The price of tickets, the resulting audience typology, the renewal of the Stones audience, the energy of the audience, a wide-ranging debate.
Some of videos show a muted, wait-and-see audience.

For sure it's not the madness of an AC/DC concert, even in 2024...

I only saw one show - MetLife 2. It was my 46th Stones show and I loved it. I would put it in my top 10 shows, maybe even my top 5

This tour was pure and utter joy for me. Mind-boggling amazement. True gifts.

I saw 5 shows which gave me 33 different songs, five of which were from the new album. (Missed Bite My Head Off!) Absolutely zero complaints. Difficult to rank.

Vegas
Cleveland
Los Angeles 2
Chicago 1
Chicago 2

Keep Going and Keep Smiling...

I was lucky enough to see every show, and it is incredibly difficult to decide on the best. I chose the best 5 based on: setlist, audience and band enthusiasm, quality of playing, emotional feeling after the show.

None of the first few made the list, because of the shorter set list and Keith's "cold's" impact. Interestingly the "second" show of multi-city shows did, because of the setlist and I think the band is more relaxed at a second show. Finally, towards the end of these recent tours, the band is a well-oiled machine; relaxed, playing well, enjoying themselves - and that is infectious!

So my list is:

Las Vegas
New Jersey 2
Chicago 2
Los Angeles 2
Ridgedale/Branson

I have heard whispers that the band recognises this "second show" phenomena, and any future excursions will look at fewer cities, but two shows in each, where possible.

Agree.. 2019 tour I had a not so good time (for a multitude of reasons) at the Jacksonville show and have stated I have zero desire to return to that city, but heard others praise the show, so who am I to complain? Conversely Cleveland this year I had zero issues with getting into the Pit and had a rockin’ time all around vs. others who had a stressful venue entry.

I went to 5 shows this tour, enjoyed them all, hard to rank so here’s fav moments of each:

Jazz Fest - Dwayne Dopsie and Irma Thomas and Time Is On My Side
Atlanta - Great guitars, Great Rambler, and Keith plays three songs for my first time
Cleveland - Raw rock energy show, my first Heartbreaker AND followed by Monkey Man
LA #1 - Seeing the Stones with my brother for first time (he really wanted Brown Sugar and kept hoping it was coming)
LA #2 - Fool To Cry and my favorite Gimme Shelter

I went to 3 shows and would place in this order -

LA2
Metlife2
LA1

But really? All were of a ridiculously high standard. What a tour!

I thought MetLife 1 was the best show, better than MetLife 2. I was at both shows.
