All this talk about fingering mouthpieces has really got my saliva going.

No Uptown Horns were injured in the tongue-in-cheek (or mouthpiece) remarks.

And yes, Time is on My Side was a joy.

I miss Skippy.

Huh wha?! Gaslight?

EDIT: you had me scared for a second...skipstone's still here right?

In his alter ego.

Third? I can't remember.

The STILL LIFE version is excellent, actually - very bluesy. And a little bit dirty.

In 1981.

They haven't played Start Me Up the same since 1981/82.

Fortunately.

1989 was the best.

They haven't played JJF as a groove since 1969, just as a FLAM FLAM cinder block. It's had almost zero feeling since.

Why anyone would think they'd pull that kind of performance out of the treasure chest for Irma Thomas is beyond me - they didn't even remember the song.

Sorry, but my mind went to the 1982 Leeds concert. I half expected Chuck to steal the spotlight in a crescendo of plink and backing vocals and then I remembered, that Chuck doesn't exist anymore.

There was something magical about Chuck. He made you believe he would be back when you least expected it. His long locks blowing in the wind. That irrepressible grin that said, "I'm the f***in' musical director of The Rolling Stones, see my set list?" Finally, I accept that Chuck is gone forever.

Same thing when Miss You started, I thought, "Wow! This is Chuck's number, practically no guitars." Then Matt started the harmonica playback from his keyboard instead. Man, it hurts right now to be a Chuck fan. He just doesn't get a look in.

LOL PLINK!

Personally, I'm partial to "his long locks flowing in the wind." He didn't have those yet, but it was a fun image.

Oh.... obviously overdubbed in March or April of 1982.

2024 Jazz Fest

It's so awesome that this happened. Probably the last legendary moment to happen in the music world.
