Coming right off the World Party death, I find out Eric Carmen has also died. So very sad, he wrote a ton of incredible songs. He had a successful solo career post Raspberries with All By Myself, Hungry Eyes, touring in one of Ringo's All Star Bands. But for me his Raspberries work was just absolutely outstanding. He had a knack for writing such a catchy lyrical hook, and just make a great pop-rock song. That funnily enough I didn't think he did as well solo. But so many incredible songs: Go All The Way, I Wanna Be With You, Let's Pretend, Don't Want To Say Goodbye, Tonight, On The Beach, I'm A Rocker, Ecstasy, Overnight Sensation, I Don't Know What A Want. What a voice, I will truly miss him.

When the rock scene was getting "heavy" the Raspberries were one of the few bands who steered against the tide and dove back into making AM hits. They were Power Pop before the term was invented.

It would be a few years before showing off your influences would become a thing. Despite their hit singles, (and even though their fourth album, Starting Over, was cited by Rolling Stone as one of the Best Albums of 1974) as artists the Raspberries were under-appreciated.

I attended their 2005 reunion show at the House of Blues, and I can tell you that they were excellent and could really deliver the goods.


On this track from his first solo album, Eric sounds like a Broadway composer produced by Phil Spector.

Enjoyed The Raspberries at the time. From 2007- he still sounds good. I didnt know he was such a good keyboard player. Respect.
